Zulgin I have simple question for you:

Do you agree with most of the sentiments of Tim Wise or do you disagree with most of the sentiments of Tim Wise. Agree or Disagree? It's that simple.

strongly disagree, his psychology is pure bogus and his speeches are so long and boring that I didn't bother to listen to all this 'the white man this and that crap'

THIS IS NOT ABOUT GUILT. I just want to see people start talking about white privlege and the legacy of colonialism.

I haven't viewed it and nor will I, I'm afraid. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm not interested in wasting my bandwidth (and time) on something I've probably heard a billion times already, it's just that I don't care for propaganda any longer.

Here are the facts: I don't know you, I don't know if you're black, white, white pretending to be black, black pretending to be white, utterly confused or a green man with snail-eyes. What does it matter?

You're pushing an agenda that doesn't affect me, that doesn't affect anyone around you. Didn't your parents ever teach you that it's pointless to cry over spilt milk? All you can ever do is clean it up, get on with your life and pour another glass.

Tell me, what is it that you want. For millions of white people to be thrown to townships? To have their homes, bank accounts, etc taken over by people of a certain colour you'd prefer? Or do you think everyone should stop fighting over the spilt milk and get on with their lives, for the betterment of everyone around us and try to improve the lives of those around us?

Your philosophy of trying to shift blame won't resolve anything. The monster that was Apartheid was killed and we're all trying to get on with our lives, you understand that, don't you?

And "white privilege?" Is this supposed to be your way of excusing what? "Black privilege?" (I assume that by "privilege" we're talking by unfair means?) Nothing like saying, "You got your turn, now we get ours" as though... what? YOU are wealthy? I'M wealthy? You realise that that is an argument about the corrupt few who are in power, right? Not the average Joe on the street who still pays his taxes, rent, insurance, etc. We're stuck with that; that is our lives--the lives of the real South Africans, not the corrupt politicians who blame everything under the sun while repeating the same crimes.

You want to undo colonialism? Start with throwing away the things you cherish: your car, your electricity, your computer and please, avoid using the roads just in case someone thinks you're reaping the benefits of colonialism.

I hold no love for the settlers, I hold no love for the Zulu warriors, I couldn't give a rat's ass about Apartheid. What I care about right now is what exists, right now. The crimes, the problems, the faults and the corruption of today. There is no excusing that by blaming the past for the decisions of those in the present. That is a coward's excuse to live with his own sins.

+ one million!

I have been talking pure sense in this thread but many of you don't seem to want to acknowledge the logic in my posts.

Have you considerd that the lack of "Acknowledgement" relates to the Lack of "Logic"

THIS IS NOT ABOUT GUILT. I just want to see people start talking about white privlege and the legacy of colonialism.

Lets talk about black privilage and the legacy of black colonialism then. (And then the "Legacy" of liberation.)

@lycan:

Tim Wise is an expert on race relations, white privilege and the legacy (key word) of colonialism. He adresses the "move on/get over it" mentality quite extensively in this speech. Please listen carefully to it. It will be well worth you time. He speaks the the truth! You cannot compare to him when talking about these issues. You are not an expert by any means. So don't try to sums things up in a condescending fasion. This man is an expert. He has studied these subjects for years. You have not. We just want white people to start talking about white privilege and the LEGACY (key word) of colonialism. We are still thinking of a solution to the injustices of the past which have become the injustices of the present.

Here is the speech that adresse the "move on get over it mentality that white people harbour":

@alloytoy: I searched wikipedia (a respected encylopedia) for black privilege and nothing came up.

As a Jew Tim Wize cannot really comment on white priveledges, its kinda like being an observer, 4de wiel in die wa. Any man who compares superior innovation to inferiority has no idea what he is talking about (maybe he wanted to sell his book/movie to the black population, jews are really good at that). The legacy of colonialism is that we white people have learned to work hard to earn a living, - it is one to be proud of, (here is a hint to fitting into a euro-centric society). Blaming the white man will only make you a sour disadvanced individual, haai siestog.

@zulgin: Tim Wise comments on his "jewishness" and explains how that has not affected him in his daily life because people treat him as a white person (because he looks like a white person) therefore has white privilege. He speaks about how his father was able to take advange of his european ancestry (despite anti-semitism) in this speech:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UJlNRODZHA

Once again, I am having to repeat myself. Somebody earlier in this thread also suggested that we can disregard all that Tim say because he has a Jewish Grandfater. It's not about what you are technically. It's about what you are perceived as in society. This man is perceived as white (because he looks like a white person) therefore benefits from white privlege.

Please answer my question: Do you agree or disagree with Tim Wise?

Do you know about theology? I find it fascinating--there are people who have dedicated their lives to the study of deities (I like to think of them as Barney the Purple Dinosaur, but that's just me) and then, even more fascinating--priests--people who have dedicated their lives to worshipping deities!

The reason I find this so fascinating is that they can all be called "experts" and they all consider themselves to speak "the truth" no matter how disjointed and completely out of touch with reality it is and largely, how out of touch with reality they, themselves, are.

Do you want to run that one by me again? Really, because I could've sworn that we're all living in this country, dealing with today's problems and not dealing with Barney the Purple Dinosaur and Pink Floyd who may or may not have landed on our shores 300 years ago and how he affected the corruption of today.

I already said I disagree, now even I have to repeat myself soos 'n ou vasgehaakte grammofoonplaat.

Sorry about that zulgin. You did indeed say that you disagree with Tim Wise. Could you please explain why you disagree with Tim by pointing out what exactly you disagree with.

Mr Morrison, I have to say, people like you always amaze me. There are a couple like you in the Philosophical Debates section of the forum--people who latch onto the more renowned "experts" of their personal brand of lunacy, those more eloquent and better able to articulate their personal agendas than they, themselves are and use them as the basis of their argument.

Mr Morrison, might I dare be so bold as to suggest that Tim Wise is your argument and that you, personally, have nothing else to substantiate your agenda with beyond emotional hysteria?

@ic:

I'm not pushing an agenda. I just want to know what other people think of him. I only said that I agree with Tim Wise once.

@lycan:

I take offense to : "Tim Wise is your argument" I have lived people brown skin. He adresses this too in this speech. Please guys, listen carefully to his speeches. I think he adresses that statement in this speech:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ8xQPdjJfM

The first viewer comment of this speech talks about his "jewishness".

Please answer my quesion. Do you agree or disagree with Tim Wise?

Summarise the parts you like then, if he isn't your argument.

Zulgin please explain why you disagree with Tim Wise. Point out the flaws in his speeches. I take it that you disagree with most of the content of his speeches.

Hi David ! ............halloooo!. Repeat after me: " I..am....an......island"

Or at least you should get the feeling by now.

Wise argues that racism in the United States is institutionalized, due to past overt racism and the ongoing effects of that past racism, along with current-day discrimination. Although he contends that personal, overt bias is less common than in the past (or at least less likely to be openly articulated), Wise argues that institutions have been set up to foster and perpetuate white privilege, and that subtle, impersonal, and even ostensibly race-neutral policies contribute to racism and racial inequality today.

I've listened to the first video that you linked. Wikipedia explains it much better than I can--this is in no way relevant to South Africa. He is whining about the minority, white people are the minority in South Africa. In fact, in his speech and in today's current climate you can change "black" to "white" and ta-da, it's relevant to South Africa. Amazing, I should be a speech-writer.

DM you just smell of the old troll JohnGulit/TheRooster/..............

Now those Tim Wise (Doff) YouTube links are something you'd expect to see on the blog "Kill-All-Whitey" - DM you just smell of the old troll JohnGulit/TheRooster/............... :sick:

Just like the ANC racist scumbags, trying to portray the image that only white folks can be racists.
