So my 5 year old laptop screen is starting to give up on me. Black lines recently started appearing across the screen. Not sure of the cause, they just appeared. I don't think it would be worthwhile to repair though, therefore I am looking to replace it. It has served me well over the years, and it does all I need it to do. It gets used for general home use stuff - browsing, e-mails, some downloads and streaming, and normal PC usage (have a few personal databases of items and some spreadsheet work that I do). No gaming. So a replacement of a similar spec machine should do just fine. Unfortunately, I have not budgeted for this replacement, so I can't afford anything "fancy" (as much as I'd like an i7).
As I am not up to date on the various components (processors, etc.), I'm turning to the masters on the forum for some input and advice on an equivalent item. And I know most are going to advocate for an SSD over an HDD, but it's not essential to me. Would likely go for 8 GB memory though. Current laptop details -
Dell Inspiron 3537
500 GB HDD
Intel Celeron 2955U @ 1.40GHz[Cores 2]
6 GB Memory
2 USB 3.0
2 USB 2.0
HDMI
DVD Drive
Running Win 10 Home with MS Office 2007
Budget : I could maybe squeeze R 7500.00, but it seems that such is not realistic.
Any and all suggestions appreciated.
