Getting close to needing that new car, and the wife is demanding an SUV to be used basically as a soccer mom car, with occasional off tar driving to a camp site or some such thing.
Budget under 250k
Mileage as low as possible
Year 2009 and newer
Decent fuel consumption (urban under 10L/100km)
Leather seats for easier cleaning of the inevitable spills by the little ones that are hopefully on the way
edit: lots of space for prams, dogs and stuff

Seems like the main contenders are diesel versions of the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Kia Sportage (wifes first choice)

Any other cars to consider? Anything to look out for with the above cars? Which one is the winner in your opinion? Where is Fazda with the Forester? :p (I actually wouldnt mind it, but they are really scarce!)

Assuming you're hooked on an SUV and seeing as your off road needs really aren't that hectic, would you consider something like a Volvo V40 Cross Country?
Or the Merc GLA?
Smaller than your current choices but just putting them out there.

Honda CR-V's the pick of the bunch in that segment I reckon, although I'd investigate the Tiguans too.

Find me a GLA for under 250k and I'll buy it right now

Of the ones you've mentioned, I've only had experience with the Q5. Does what it says on the box, but personally not such a fan of it's shape - Q3 has better proportions to my eye - and I prefer the shape of the X3. Kia is the joker in the pack - looks the mutt's nuts, a bit blingy but there is substance behind the style.

I'll consider the X1 as well, how much boot space does it sacrifice?
As for the Honda, wife hates the interior so its a no go

lol - last tar my wife made the same demands so we got a second hand captiva - leather seats, 9.4l/100km from a 2l diesel - problem was I enjoy it so much I kept it. I do let her use it when she needs to do school outings as it has those two seats right at the back when she needs them. :)

So your wife's dismissive of the two best cars in the segment... Fickle beings, these women-folk.

Interior on the Sportage left me decidedly unimpressed, for what it's worth. Not so much the look than the feel; the Koreans' tactile quality just isn't up to scratch yet.

*edit*

The EcoSport's the size of a flippin' shoe, okes.

More than fits his requirement and he'll be able to get a newer one as opposed to a 1910 version of something else.
Why not tell him to get a 2000 X5 then? :p
