Time for baby names

Don't saddle the kid with multiple names :p
I've come across some kids with 5 first names at university; I can only remember their pain.

Also, keep it relatively simple. Think about what it will sound like in 25 years.

Any names you're leaning towards?

This is how we do it in my family. Me and my wife have children, my mother will name all the kids if and when they come through. My sisters children will get their names from my sister's mother-in-law. Since my wife didn't get to choose our children's names she'll name our son's kids.

Hope I'm not confusing everyone, just thought i'd share a tradition followed by some xhosa peeps and zulu's i hear

I have 3 names, all of them family names. Grandad's name, Dad's name, Uncle's name. In that order. Plus a 20 letter surname gives me one hell of a long name.

First name - Unique (Must be, otherwise the kid will always be Jnr)
Second name - family name (Give the kid a sense of belonging)
Surname - should sort itself out ;-)
 
We went with a mixture of family names and personal choice. Son nr1 is Daniel Justin - after my brother and my wife's brother. Son nr2 is Nathan Paul - first name was something we just liked, 2nd name is my father. Family members appreciate the props ;)

Sounds unfair to me that someone else gets to name your children ... you made them, you raise them, you pay for them ... you really ought to be able to choose their names :)

That being said, Mr Blu tells me that in Indian (Hindu) tradition, his sisters are supposed to name our child. Fat chance ! :D
 
My cat (named woofles) walked across my keyboard once and it spelled: iofgvbaw ... so I called my kid that. Apparently it means: He who drowns jelly in a sandbox.
 
My kids 2nd names are definitely either going to be "of" or "the". I just think it sounds so regal.:p

I lol'd, woofles is an awesome name for a kitty.

Maybe PythonFSI can name his next kid that, it's all meaningless anyway, or actually PythonFSI or just FSI...

That is the old translation. Researchers have found that it means, "I'll going to smother you in a sandbox.".

Mr Blu is taking a fat chance lol. Perhaps it works like that in his family but it isn't in Hindu tradition. What I do know though is they tend to wait for the baby to be born before naming him/her. Same goes for buying baby clothes etc.
 
Also got 3 names and will never punish my kids like that :p

i wanted to name my oldest daughter roxanne, but my ex sister-in-law had her daughter just before me and took the name. i had mentioned the name to her. i was so mad. then i decided on mistie-faye and a woman that i worked for had her daughter just before me as well and took the name. all three of us were pregnant at the same time. boy was i mad when that happened.
so when i had my daughter with my husband now he told me not to bring the weather into his lounge lol. so i named her kayleigh faye. kept the faye. my youngest daughter he chose the name andrea louise but she was born at 6 and a half months and was so small i said the name was too big for her so i chose amy louise.
 
Pick a name that can't rhyme with anything that they could be teased with at school. Also have a shortish name, so the kid doesn't suffer when filling out forms. :)

And what do they have in mind? :p

Make a list of what you like, and see if it fits the kid when you pop it out :D

LOL! Well Mr Blu is not your average traditional Indian, so maybe it's just the habit in HIS family and not all Hindu families.

Don't they also consult astrologers for the names? Very hippy !

They (his 2 sisters) did not mention this custom at all ... I think they know who you can mess with - and I am not one of those :)

I like Italian names (at least I think it's originally Italian!) like Claudia, Olivia, and the like.
