An average working individual with an

  • 08h00 - 17h00 job
  • 21 workdays in a 30 day month
  • 30 min commute to work and back
  • average of 7 hr sleep per night

has the following percentage split of time use in a month;

3% commuting to and from work

26,25% at work

29,16% sleep

41,67% at home

Work out your own time spent. I'm sure some have it way worse than the average Joe. Someone like Mortymoose who's in retail I'm sure would have interesting figures.

EDIT:
Home time includes recreational time at and away from home, in other words YOUR time not working for your income. If working from home that time would not count as home time.

08h00 - 19h30 job
21 workdays in a 30 day month
1 hour commute to work
30 min commute back
average of 5 hr sleep per night

The following percentage split of time use in a month;

33.5% at work
4.4% commuting
20.8% sleeping
41.25% at home

But my stats for next month will be drastically different, work % will probably be 70% as I gear up to work 06h30 to 22h00 for an extended period.

Sounds hectic. You're going to need as much sleep as you can get to stay focused.

Not sure how u guys do your math. Is at home including or excluding sleep? For me all totals should add up to 100 so for me at home is awake time at home. Even that is off as I spend time away from home but not at work. Rather call it discretionary time.

Travel: 5.83%
Work: 26.25%
Sleep: 33.33%
Discretionary time: 34.58%

Being semi-retired has its advantages. I however did my slogging, there was close on a decade before this where I worked close on 53% of my time i.e. ±17 hours each and every day so give me my 8% I work nowadays and my 5 to 10% golf :D

hrm... *looks back an an avg week last week was excption much like this one*

Per Week:
work(Productive) = 45hrs @work (Total) = 50hrs
commute (Total) = 1.2hrs x 5 + 1hr ~= 7hrs
sleep = 6hrs x 5 + 9hrs x 2 ~= 39hrs
idle time ~= 72hrs
Total time: 168hrs

so a weekly % looks like this:
@work: 29.8%
inCommute: 4.2%
Sleep: 23.2%
idle/discresionary: 42.8%

I use to divide discretionary better last year but will revert to doing so soon :) These figures are pretty close to real as i log my daily times even personal time too hehe
