Time to ditch Windows phones?

With FNB pulling the plug on their Windows app, i think it's time for me to ditch the OS and get an android phone.

Really love my 950XL and not looking forward to moving but this is the nail in the coffin.

Received the message below when i opened the FNB app this morning. The login page also changed and now i need to put in my user id in as well. The desktop app is still working though

Always enjoyed the OS, but they've never got the traction in the market they needed. Your move back to Android should be quite refreshing.

I skipped Android and have been with Windows since Sony Ericsson with my X1. Everyone in the house has windows phones and my Dell tablet runs full Windows 10 Pro.

Going to be a big change and not sure what phone to get yet.

Quite the opposite of refreshing, I am on windows phone and do not have the constant issues like al my android friends with the devices constantly running out of space because the crap android is leaking memory/space

One of the women at work had me clearing her watsapp media on her windows phone weekly cause the phone kept running out of space. She got an android about a year ago. Not asked me to help since.
 
Does the FNB website not work in your phone's browser?
 
I now it's a bother, at least the ABSA app is still under active dev. Referring to several comments above, I'm helping a lot of peeps with there Droids and there are many things that's irritating, especially on the ones that can't get the latest Android updates. SD cards are just about useless, since everything get's installed on the phone storage, and moving apps over is a tedious process. Most support requests are about running out of memory. I continuously encounter app crashes, even on the higher end devices. Defragmentation is a nightmare, I usually start off by asking, where the heck did you put the store app, where's the settings? Nav buttons are switched around, home screens are a total mess and there is very little consistency across apps regarding options and navigation. When it comes to iOS and Win mobile, there is a consistent, logical feel to the entire experience. Obviously you get older devices that can't be updated, but there is still consistency. Bottom line is, between my iPad and 950XL I'm avoiding Droid's like the pest :crylaugh:

Yip that is why I bought a spare 640XL last month - that should cover me on the windows phone side for the next 3 years.
 
Thinking of making the move back to Android as well... Uber are apparently not interested in supporting their Windows app anymore either.

that is going to be another major issue.

My son started grade 1 this year and I couldn't get a reliable transport especially with the after school activities and not finishing at the same time every day. My mother uses Uber daily to pick up my son from school and she has a windows phone.

It works, but I find the maps don't update properly all of the time. I was complaining the other day about card descriptions and something about account editing and they basically just said, "sorry. windows phone & blackberry are not supported".
 
I tried. I really tried to move to Android. Bought a 128 gig Nexus 6P to get the pure 'droid experience.

I couldn't do it. After a few weeks I went back to Win Mobile and posting now from my 950 XL.

It's worth changing banks to keep Win Mobile.

At least Investec has a UWP app. The latest update was released about two weeks ago. Runs on phone and desktop.

Seems you're gonna have to ditch FNB.

It is true that a R1500 android phone is limited and frustrating. It is also true that a similar spec. and price windows phone is quite adequate.

Seamless syncing of 3 x O365 enterprise mail accounts, contacts and calendar are a major ball-ache. Even with the MS Office apps on Android. There's just no way I want to use Google as a dogleg, especially not for Contacts.

Much less important is the really crappy quality of some Android apps compared to the Win ones. For example, HIK's iVMS (for remote cam monitoring) on Windows Mobile is marvellous, whereas on Android it's clunky and buggy.
