Hi

The past few days I've been getting such bad speeds on my line when I do a Speedtest or when I try to download.

77ms
0.67 down
0.33 up

I'm on an Afrihost Uncapped 4mb account with a Telkom 4mb adsl line.

I called Afrihost first to see what the problem was and they said that everything is fine on their side. After that, I called Telkom and all they do is a port restart and I still have the same problem.

On my modem, It says I have 2027 down and 507 up.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can get my speeds back to normal?

Much appreciated :)

You're not syncing near your reported account speed at all, could you get the stats from your router ( SNR,Line attenuation )

Connection Speed: 2187 Down 507 Up
Line Attenuation: 56.5 Down 29.5 Up
SNR Margin: 6.70 Down 13 Up

It never used to be so bad I dont know what happened

I would log a support ticket with Telkom and ask why the connection speed has been dropped.

So far it seems to indicate a line issue, high attentuation and low signal strength. Would explain the high latencies.

Please PM me your username so I can take a look. If your line is with us we can report the fault for you.

Hi MK123,
While the line issue is a possibility can I ask you how much downloading you have done so far this month? While uncapped in theory gives you the speed of the connection, there is a fair usage policy with all "uncapped" ISP providers. If you have done a lot of downloading and each ISP has their own rules to calculate those who have exceeded the fair usage, they then throttle your bankdwidth.
I know this from personal experience. I would take Afriman up on his offer and I would also call Afrihost and ask them if you have exceeded the fair usage policy. They are very nice about it. A good indication that this may be the case is if you get better speeds after business hours. Anywho what we did to solve the problem was to limit downloading to be outside business hours. This gave us better speed during the day.
Let us know what happens.
Regards Tim

Hi Tim

Thanks for the reply

I will give Afrihost a call when I get to the office tomorrow morning but for now I have checked that I have only used 39gb this month so surely I shouldn't have exceeded the fair usage policy? I will make sure tomorrow though.

Thanks
