Tips to Boost your eBucks

Checkers is good for groceries. The ebucks you earn for that is great to spend on 40% discount vouchers. Those vouchers in turn should be used on cool stuff you would otherwise probably not afford.

I could be wrong, but i don't think you earn ebucks when you use a voucher. Has been the case for my last three voucher shopping trips at Makro. Only earn is the amount i have to swipe once the voucher is deducted from the total.

Do you mean you get no ebucks at all for the whole trip if you use one voucher? What I was trying to get at is that if you buy a discounted voucher and use it at the same store, you obviously pay less real cash and therefore earn less ebucks. The first time you go back with a voucher, you pay R75 and use a R25 voucher, you get eB112.5. The first time without a voucher, you got eB150.

The circle looks like this, I think:
Code:
x = 100

x = (100 - (x * 0.15) / 0.6)
x = (100 - (x * 0.15) / 0.6)
x = (100 - (x * 0.15) / 0.6)
...
x = 80

So if you keep feeding discounted vouchers into Checkers and shop only at Checkers, you have a long term discount of 20% on everything there.

If you are going to buy discounted vouchers for things at other places, you sort of get 25% as a refund from Checkers. So if you would buy these other things with cash anyway, it's better to use eBucks for these vouchers rather than feeding it back to Checkers.

All in all a lot to obsess over, but in the end the important thing is "buy at Checkers".

Ah, didn't realise that. Yes, from the earn rules that seems to be the case. The end result is still pretty much the same, it ends up between R75 and R82 which is still a big incentive to change behaviour.

People can quibble with your figures, but generally you have hit the nail on the head.

We do not like Checkers, but go there for the EBucks. We dislike the leaking freezers and the reduced range of products compared to PNP. We go to Checkers and buy whatever is on the list, and then go to PNP and buy what we have missed. Generally 60% is Checkers 40% PNP. However we do save about R160 per month at PNP on VIP vouchers.

The EBucks, Discounts, Eazi Coupons, VIP Vouchers, and Specials have made shopping a Mathematical Percentage Challenge.

I'm going to buy stuff at Dischem today. You get 1% back when presenting your eBucks card. But I see it doesn't apply if you take a plastic bag!

I spend most ebucks on 40% discounted Makro vouchers. Used either to buy monthly stuff like detergents, or stuff I can't afford but is nice to have. Dustbuster packed up, going to get the new top of the range one for 600 bucks worth of ebucks (R1000) = winning

LOL. Just making sure that we don't spread incorrect facts. That said I agree, I do most of my monthly shopping at Checkers. It is unfortunately the easiest way to maximize ebucks earn, which in turn gets used on 40% discount vouchers at other shops to buy stuff I would normally have to save up for anyways, and that is for me personally the best way to maximize ebucks as a reward scheme.

Pop Quiz :) in other words, too lazy to Google

Credit Card or EFT for max eBucks on Platinum?

Swipe credit card for 2% ebucks earn or online credit card details for 4% ebucks earn.
EFT = 0% ebucks earn.

I am sure you can figure out what the max ebucks earn from the above.

Agreed, and I think Aessa is overcomplicating things. This statement coming from me, that's a real feat ;)

In the process of moving over to Private Client (should have taken FNB up on their pre OCT14 offer :-(), even though, imo, it is a severely watered down Private Wealth, I will still be in a better NET position than I am currently on Plat. At the moment, Private Client Reward Level 'hoops' are exactly the same as Platinum, I would expect that to change in the future...

I do all my planned grocery shopping at Checkers. I find their fresh produce and butchery average (not terrible but not good either) most of the time. I'll typically buy meat and fresh produce cash at the corner butcher/fruit and veg shop or drive out to PNP Little Falls or Nicol where the quality is top standard and I still earn at a higher rate for "Groceries" than normal swipes. I do also have discovery healthyfood benefit which also provides additional cashback at PNP.

Why should you have taken up PC pre-Oct'14?

How is being on PC vs Platinum leaving you in a better net position?

WOW... I just got a massive injection in EBUCKS

12 Jan | FNB PW EBUCKS REWARDS MANUAL ALLOCATION | 22 166

On the 8th of Jan I got my usual items which added up to around 9k, which I think is normal...

Hope this isn't a mistake :-) Cos thats actually money!

why pre OCT2014? - I would be on Private Wealth now(migrated from old Private Client) and have better benefits - assuming I maintained RL5. Income requirement for PW now is ZAR1.5m+
why NET better off? - you need to calculate this based on your spend, but I will be better off.
For non fuel/elec/checkers etc. spend, there is a 25% uplift in eBucks earned. Also, just as important, the boundaries are higher with regards to spend(eg 20K vs 25K) and then reverts to a crappy 0.6% :-(

Unless one is a really high roller, reaching and maintaining RL5 on Private Wealth seems to be quite a tough one. Are you saying if you had changed pre-Oct'14 you would have then welcomed PW rules being applied to your situation?

Private Client on the other hand is a different story as you have the easier Platinum rules applied.

I sent an email to [email protected], [email protected] & [email protected] on the 11 Jan and they all acknowledged the email yesterday. I don't understand how long they can possibly investigate etc. Surely they just need to look up my Credit Card Limit and see what I spend.
They are inundated with queries most likely and even if address your query they are unlikely to apply their minds to what it is that you are asking. I waited two days for them to totally misunderstand what it was that I was asking. I then had my premier banker re-submit my query and now it's been 4 working days and no feedback. I'd be surprised if they get back to me this week. eBucks customers service is pathetic.

The sad trend for my own queries is that they seems to ALWAYS misunderstand, regardless of how specific I am in my queries, and I have begun to wonder if this is not done deliberately. They seemed to understand very clearly after the repeated "misunderstanding" led to a HelloPeter complaint, though ... so you can maybe see where the conspiracy theory comes from
