Tips to Boost your eBucks

Hi guys

just had a marathon read through the thread, especially since i was a sucker caught by the ebucks rule changes in October. (dropped from a cosy level 5 to level 3 :( ) - but yes - willing to see what can be done.
Looking at obviously optimizing banking fee's versus ebucks earned (preferable level 5).

  • can someone advise, who dropped from platinum to gold, if they reduced your overdraft/credit card limits accordingly? I am really struggling to see the reason to pay R80 more for an account just because a silwer card looks more snazzy :P .Thinking about the yearly linking fee applicable to gold accounts, the difference is probably made up there?
  • Is it possible to do the change to gold over the phone (yes i am also finding my premier banker rather useless, as she always needs to refer to other departments, thus defeating the point).
  • regarding using between 10% and 90% of your credit card during a month, has someone played around with this? eg - if i have a straight limit of 20k, and no budget. will a 2k amount be enough? (additionally , do i have to keep that amount permanently, or will a 24 hour transaction be enough?

thank you for keeping all of us updated on your ebucks travels - definitely a bonus!

On RL5, but only got eB600 awarded for my R800 worth of electricity bought during that period :wtf: ? Should be eB1200! At a glance all my earning on everything for the last few months seems low. Been too busy to audit it  Gonna have to spend some of my weekend going through this cr@p!!

- I moved from Plat to Gold. Still cheaper with the linking fee. No change of limits but I dropped my credit card limit (which took a few different department) to 50k and do all my spend on the credit card to hit the 10%
- Yes you can do it over the phone
- 24 hour transaction should be enough.

thank you! will definitely give them a shout (and the 24 hour fee will save plenty on interest i would assume).
Finally just to confirm. Gold / Platinum has the same Ebucks% earn rates? ( think i read that some private accounts have a small increase?)

*edit* Just gave them a shout, and decided to update just in case someone has a similar scenario.

I am currently using a big part of my overdraft, and thus, changing down to gold will have an effect on my interest rate obtained and thus banking costs in result. I will most probably stick to my guns and see if i can achieve a cheap enough level 5 on platinum.

The weirdest thing happened to me this week, I am usually on level 4. When I logged in to check on the 8th, I was level 4 and I had received an above average amount of eBucks. I think, score but then realise that it was because my fuel spend was particularly high and I also bought lotsa stuff online. THEN I log in yesterday, all of a sudden I'm reward level 3 and I'm short 1500 eBucks :/ Upon inspection I found that they took away my "Use between 10% and 90% of your credit limit during the calendar month." reward. This would have put me on 18500 points, level 5!

So I called them about it and they said "there was a fault in the system". That pissed me off so much. They escalated it and told me that the corrections would only be applied next month. WHAT THE ACTUAL F@#$!?!? I was planning on buying a few Makro gift cards with those rewards, now I have till next month to get my 40% off. *BIG SIGH* :/

I also didn't get the "use 10 - 90% credit card limit" reward this month. Pissed me off as was expecting to reach level 4...

Any tips on what I can buy online to get those extra 2500 points to keep me from dropping a level?
Don't want to spend unnecessary money just to stay on a certain level where my spending will outweigh the rewards...

Pay R50 of your Telkom bill online. Search for one of my previous posts on this thread for details.

Tel them to change it manually because you want to make a purchase, they did it for me.

Wrong points again this month costing me a level and now also disputing their reasoning.

Why does it seem as if FNB is struggling this time around with their changes and this is going to become a monthly battle to get the correct points and ebucks.

Cos nobody is leaving FNB due to the poor service (myself included).
They'll only make real changes when people vote with their feet and wallets

I had a chat with the FNV Forex - 0860 1 FOREX (36739)

You need to choose "512-07 Foreign investments - Other" and then the tax clearance certificate number field is not required to be filled.

I made a USD inter-account transfer yesterday, and it was processed and reflecting on my account today.

This seems to have changed? I'm trying to follow these instructions for the Global account and i'm not getting anywhere. It wants that tax number field...

EDIT: My bad - Income Tax Number is mandatory. Tax reference however isn't.

I did the Global Account thing yesterday and added 1000 Euro in order to get my 3000 ebucks reward level points.

The Global account is however still reflecting '0' balance. Does this take some time to reflect or is there a glitch?

They phone you a day or three later (can't remember how long exactly) and then tell you the exchange rate at that very moment and what it will cost you. You then need to say yay or nay and it's done in a few seconds. They feel somewhat rushed, so if you've never done this before (like me), it's a bit surprising. Makes sense, that rate isn't exactly going to stay the same if you start wondering about it.

Trying to pay a few more accounts via credit card this month (preferably online, as i really don't love ques at the shopping centers)
Have someone found a way to pay 8ta / telkom mobile contracts via credit card yet?
I don't see a pay via credit card option on the telkom mobile website(altho the very similar looking telkom website does have the option), and there is also no easy pay reference on the telkom bill/invoice.

any other options i can look at?

thx

You think you can go in store and pay with credit card?

actually using a website, but in store will probably be an option too.

think i discovered an "easypay" like number on the right hand side of the invoice. will attempt this once and see.

only issue, they refused to cancel any debit orders via a phone call - weird. thus going to telkom shop tomorrow :/
