To go wide or not?

What are you opinions upon getting a wide screen LCD.

I'm thinking of getting one sometime, but not so sure about performance regarding games (older ones as well) and just normal use.

We have a 19" Wide at the office, but everything looks squashed vertically and stretched horizontally. The resolution has been set on wide...if its on normal 1024 x 1280 its even worse :p It could be the graphics cards the office PC's have.

I saw an LCD at a PC shop that did seem to have any problems. Everything was correctly proportioned.

What you think?

I have a 19" LCD at the moment at home (normal)
 
Things certainly shouldnt look squashed - if you draw a square does it look like a rectangle?
 
Things definitely shouldn't look squashed or anything like that. I'm on widescreen now and it just means more "space".
 
Agreed on it not looking squashed.It definately should'nt. Do you have any idea how much you would want to spend maybe?
Games should look awesome as almost all newer games support widescreen. You may have some issues with older games though but some of them can be fixed.
 
i would just like to know if guys actually use the search function in these forums, cause sheese... there are alot of identical questions asked over and over again...
 
Ajax it always happens. But what irritates me more is when people complain about others that post silly questions. Granted sometimes its just too much and even i get annoyed but for the most part thats what a forum is for.
 
fully agree.. just that on almost every page, there is a question about widescreen's of sorts.... in this instance any way..

i know thats what forums are for, to ask questions, but sometimes the answer is right there if you just have a quick look.. :)
 
No i agree with you there aswell. I always search first. Can be hectic though. Makes me think of the 226bw samsung thread on hardforums that is 110 pages long!! That took me like a week to read! :D

nothing annoys me more on a forum than okes who complain about threads

sometimes ppl asking the stuff again might actually help get more info than say a thread that happened 3 months ago

im going widescreen tomorrow, i hope it goes well

WELL IM GOING TO BE BUYING THE SAMSUNG 226 TOMORROW, i hope that its not squashed like bwana says
 
Had my wide screen for about 3 weeks now and I will never go back!

16:10 > 4:3 in more ways than one :)
 
most games nowadays have widescreen resolution available...so nothing looks stretched etc. 1680x1050
 
I dont know.
The screen itself looks fine but that stand will make me got nuts every time I look at it. It looks kinda flimsy. As if a good knock will break it off(not that I would try :))
Wasn't there a newer version of the Samsung 226CW coming out. Same look they just call it a 226CW?
 
Hehehe told you killa its a beaut! The 226bw won't be discontinued from what i understand but samsung has a whole new range of them including a cheaper 5ms version.I think there are 4 new ones all in all.Some also have hdmi inputs etc etc.
