Hey,

I am a huge fan of these 30gig locals, in the past i know a lot of people including myself that used to get more than the allocated 30gigs (got into the 100's). Now we are gettin +-40gigs.. Okay im not complaining we still gettin more than we buy, but. . . Is it not posible to try introduce an uncapped local account that we can use on the IS news server? I know in the past Openweb offered a Uncapped local, but it did not last very long..?

Im sure if you guys can get IS to create a package of an uncapped local at a good price you would have quite a lot of takers. Well i would.

*Edit yes i know local is not ment to be capped, but the fact of the matter is, that it is capped.. So we need a product that is uncapped or offers a higher ussage for us BW abusers.. :)

I would like Someone from openweb and webafrica to say what there thoughts are on this. . . Those two because im not 100% sure who else sells 30gig locals..

I agree!!

As the fact the remains and AS gazzeted, we are supposed to be uncapped locally. I was under the impression that WA was playing the game VERY well and it was very admirable up until now. I got capped last night at +-45GB.

We need a uncapped local package as I would also be a taker! FOR SURE!

Ah okay, well it seems that i dont think the about situation will be happening.. The reason why in the past the accounts where "uncapped" was because IS's capping systems was gebroked..

It seems it is now fixed as all of us can tell..

But i would still like to hear from the ISP's. Because surely the more you buy the less you pay? Bulk discount? :P

Ya. I have to agree...I am sure we didn't expect to get like 150GB a month when only paying for 30GB, but we can still look for solutions...

It seems pretty clear that ICASA are not going to do anything anytime soon about enforcing uncapped local for all...

The only problem is, if one of the ISP's does get back to us and proposes some kind of high-end local-only account:
a) What would be a reasonable and feasible price for this?
b) Would this not put ICASA under even less pressure to do something about uncapped local sometime in the not too distant future?

Someone mentioned somewhere that Openweb used to have an uncapped local account but it didn't last long. Anyone know why? And how much it cost?

Uncapped local...hmmm I would value that at around R100 ?? At least until Telkom can be taken to task about their capping policies and it becomes free.

Im sure it would go for around R195.00 though and maybe that its also wishfull thinking :p in which case it would not be viable for the standard ADSL user. Thats probably why the service dropped.

Indeed, that is the problem. Currently 30GB local accounts already cost R130...

IMO R200 for uncapped would perhaps be something viable...Those that are going to make use of the service are going to use a LOT more than 30GB and thus get their money's worth( so to speak).

It just seems so pathetic really. R200 is a lot of money and people in other countries don't even know what 'local only' bandwidth is. Kinda goes against the idea of the world-wide-web, doesn't it? :(

I dont mind paying an ADSL access fee if that includes the uncapped local bandwidth. Im sure thats what it was all about to begin with. :/

Maybe we could fight for free local on the grounds that it should be part of the "line rental". Otherwise what "ADSL Access" are we getting exactly?

I would pay R250 bucks for a 100GB local only account :D

but then again I would Gladly pay someone ten times more just to get Telkom to wake up... "Touch Tomorrow" Hmmm pretty Ironic slogan Telk*k use when not even they are touching tomorrow nevermind the people they serve

Hey Friends

I absolutely agree that Uncapped local would be fantastic.

However, currently IS does not offer such a service.

An increase in the local cap have been suggested in the past, but they informed us that it will not be possible until Telkom drops their IP CONNECT costs, which indeed they have not done yet.

We will however keep clients updated when such a service is in the pipeline.

Kind regards

One thing that still really confuses me, is how in the past they where able to run the accounts allowing 120gigs pm.. :/

Indeed, their capping mechanisms must have been really broken to allow going so far over the cap...

Even if they where broken, there is no way they would have allowed the accounts to run at a loss.. Its a business they need to at least break even..

Indeed. Which seems to suggest that they could do it if they wanted to. Maybe the profit margins are just too low for them to consider it worthwhile.
