Telkom: I beg you, don't do it

"Telkom", as defined by the satirical Uncyclopedia website in 2006, "is the South African word for Satan, although this is a very loose translation since Telkom would kick Satan's ass.

Telkom is just the baddest, meanest, ugliest corporation in all the world. It makes Exxon, Apple, and George Doublya Bush look like Mother Teresa".

This pretty much sums up the feeling most South Africans have about Telkom, which last week reported what everyone already knows: its profits are down, its business is stagnant and it's pretty clueless about how to proceed in this new world in which data transmission is the biggest thing happening.

:) I like his writing. Well. Things are changing but I would still like to see the following happen for Xmas.

1. Telkom to be broken apart in 4 competing units

or

2. Government selling off its entire stake in Telkom... with true fixed line residential competition for Telkom...

Not a FOUR Letter word

Well.
Things are changing but I would still like to see the following happen for Xmas.

[fixed]

1. Telkom to give us our line upgrades BEFORE Christmas

or

2. Government selling off its entire stake in Telkom via a TRUE PUBLIC share offering

Some people have been coasting ( actually burning up the lines) for FREE for nearly THREE months.

WebAfrica THANKS WEBAFRICA

Digichilli THANKS DIGICHILLIS

Now I am pretty sure that that could not all have happened without some Telkom input somewhere.

SO

In anticipation of a really good Christmas

Telkom THANKS TELKOM

( Ok guys "keep it real" -- don't let me down now. :) )

Naked ADSL

There is just one last hurdle to affordability.

We need to get Naked ADSL!!!

That is no forced voice line rental, no huge installation line fee for existing lines that have been disconnected, no deposit (I paid mine before but got nothing back when I cancelled), no Telkom billing so the full telecoms cost gets managed by the ISP (Telkom's billing department cannot handle cancellations).

If a company like WebAfrica or similar or even the ISPA create a petition so we can put forward the notion of naked ADSL to ICASA.

We cannot wait or it will never happen!!
Telecoms operators like Telkom (and to a lesser extent Neotel) whole strategy to the residential market is basket services so they proclaim huge discounts when in fact we got to pay for stuff we don't want or don't use enough to get value out of it.
