TODAY IS FRIDAY

The hope is that they set up the exclusion list in a hurry or didnt bother excluding mywireless users since they surely did not expect this kind of thing to happen. But it should, in all fairness, be impossible for any user to use the privileged [email protected] address in order to prevent any mass mailing (spam).

Its probably a fruitless endeavour.

With regard to TODAY IS FRIDAY

Just spoke to a barely coherent Orc at CallCentre,
"No we know that there's a prrroblem wif speeds.. the company that does the towers has said that things'll be fixed today... there's some setting on the towers that has to be adjusted..no, they didnt say what settings, they dont let us know those sorts of fings here at the Call Centre.. there's maintenance being done tomorrow on helderkruin, but it shouldnt affect you on brixton 126..we should have speeds back today.. we'll also give you a courtesy call on monday to see how fings is.."

LG, have you experienced any improvement at all today on Brixton 126?

It feels slightly faster, but my download and ping tests don't conclusively show much difference than before on Brixton tower. International seems noticeably faster, but again not entirely sure though.

Came home, using Horizon View tower, same thing - not much noticeable difference.

But then, I was fairly happy with the speeds I was getting anyway. I was hoping the improvements would affect everyone.

The bandwidth problem, which had affected fewer than 1% of MyWireless's customers, would be rectified by Monday, Potgieter said.

I thought there were more than 1% of users had been affected. [:p]

Not seeing much change - a 'kb' or two above my average - in other words 4 - 6k, with occasional spikes upwards. Nothing that justifies R650 a month.

They said the reset tomorrow morning will be when things are implemented. Then we'll see.
Actually, Orc #1 at callcentre said things would be fixed today - and that the tower maintenance had nothing to do with 126 Brixton, just Helderkruin - and then Orc #2, slightly higher up the food chain, said that the changes would be implemented during the reset and tower fiddling tomorrow am.
So one of the two were lying, or just plain stupid.

...or both

I was contacted by an Orc today, and they said that they'd be resetting the Radius servers tomorrow (as per the support mail).

Now, a Radius server authenticates you. Once it's done that, it's job is done. I don't see how that will magically improve things...

I'm connected to 126 Brixton as well, and I'm seeing 14.05Kb/s from legends.tribes2.za.net which is hosted on an intl backbone. This, with a single TCP connection.

I have to admit, this is the best performance I've had from 126 Brixton in 6 weeks. Perhaps Sauron's eye is looking your way LG?

Edit:

These IPerf's also look way better than the 25Kbits/sec of the last month or so...

TheRodent's website jolts Sentech into action

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Editor at Large

DISGRUNTLED Sentech customers are waging an online war against the state-owned signal distribution company over the quality of its fledgling MyWireless "broadband" internet service.

One customer has even registered the internet domain names sentechsucks.co.za and mywirelesssucks.co.za, and has posted criticism of the company, its product and customer service on the websites, in a bid to draw attention to his grievances.

The websites appear to have jolted Sentech into action. The company has agreed to have the technical problem fixed by Monday and communicate with all affected customers, in return for the transferal of the domain names to it.

In addition to the websites, other customers have inundated internet forums with complaints that the MyWireless service has deteriorated significantly since its launch in February and no longer qualifies as the high-speed broadband service that Sentech advertises, and for which it charges more than R649 a month.

Sentech, which is run along commercial lines, was granted a licence by the Independent Communications Authority of SA in 2002, allowing it to deliver e-commerce, internet, broadband and value-added telecommunications services directly to consumers and businesses.

But questions are now being asked about whether Sentech has the capacity to do so, after it spent R300m on billing systems and back-office internet infrastructure for MyWireless.

MyWireless is SA's first broadband cellular network, based on third-generation (3G) cellular technology. It predated by some time the announcements this week by cellular networks Vodacom and MTN that they had acquired noncommercial 3G licences.

It uses a radio-based network in the major metropolitan areas to connect customers within the radio "footprint" to the internet without wires.

Critics said yesterday that MyWireless in some areas had delivered speeds slower than those provided by a normal 56K dial-up modem.

Sentech's GM for communications and marketing, Michelle Potgieter, confirmed yesterday an agreement had been reached with a disgruntled customer, known as TheRodent, who on his sentechsucks.co.za site had launched an attack on Sentech .

The bandwidth problem, which had affected fewer than 1% of MyWireless's customers, would be rectified by Monday, Potgieter said.

O****z!

Guess I didn't have to resort to Google spamming in the end. The Ohsh1tz is due to the fact that uhm. I ah. uhm. Well. To put it bluntly, I uhm. Like developed the BDFM site a few years ago when they moved to Vignette StoryServer...

But truthfully, I had nothing to do with the writing of that article...

One thing that intrigues me is that the target date has now moved to Monday?

But, hang on..

She didn't say it is the upcoming Monday!! :P

Anyways, it was an impressive move that TheRoDent has made.

Well done!

Why do I feel the need to NOT disconnect from the internet, because it's possible that the server authentication will NOT work after the adjustments, considering how the original "adjustments/optimisations" went a few months back....
