Whats your preferred method of payment at toll roads?

I'd would think credit/garage cards would be the easiest but I've heard of people being charged 6 months later or double/triple charged.

Many people seem to prefer cash.

Have you experienced any issues?

Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never had the double/triple charged problem with my garage card.

I know I would never let them swipe my credit card there though... that's just looking for trouble.

Yea, I find swiping is the easiest and even though the payment sometimes takes a few weeks before being deducted I haven't had a problem with double/tripple swipes. I agree with Evo though, wouldn't risk using my credit card at a toll, only ever use my garage card.

When l lived in PTA, I used to use a garage card, and I did have a few issues with them double/triple charging.

The problem is, they charge you like a month or two later, which by then you might have gone through the toll gate a few times. So you need to know exactly when and how often you went through the toll gates, and keep your slips as proof.

Cash is safer.

I only use cash... a lot safer.

Once the new toll system comes into working, you will basically receive a bill at the end of each month, similar to a speeding fine (according to the ministry of road works). I personally don't have a problem with it but already know there will be problems. Logistics, stolen cars, etc...

I'd like to know how they plan to implement the ORT (Open Road Tolling) in Gauteng.
From what I've read there will be no toll booths and it will use sensors on over head gantries.

However how are they going to bill the users? I've heard rumours of the eTag system but if there are no toll booths what happens if you have no transponder?
If they use vehicle license number plates as a way to link the vehicle to the owner what are they going to do about false or missing number plates?
Unless all the off ramps are policed I don't see how it's going to work.
