Tom Clancy, the US author of a string of best-selling spy and military thrillers, has died, the New York Times reported Wednesday. He was 66.

His long list of novels -- several of which became Hollywood movies --included "The Hunt for Red October," "Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger."

Is it the same Tom Clancy that made games? Like ghost recon?

It's the same guy, though I doubt his involvement in the games is anything other than his name being pasted on them. Maybe the earlier games, but doubtful he had any involvement with the later ones.

Wrote about Boeings flying into important buildings before it was cool for bad guys to do:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debt_of_Honor:

Throughout the book, President Durling faces another, less important political crisis: Vice-President Ed Kealty is forced to resign after being accused of drugging and raping a former member of his staff. With the crisis over, President Durling nominates Ryan as vice-president for his services during the crisis. However, an embittered Japan Air Lines pilot—driven mad by the deaths of his son and brother during the conflict—flies his Boeing 747 directly into the U.S. Capitol during a special joint session of Congress.

RIP...

One of the few authors of that genre of book that I actually enjoyed.

In the beginning he was involved but then he sold all the rights to Ubisoft. The quality of the games then went down the toilet.
