TomTom GPS

I think it's Rectron if I'm not mistaken. It was some or other computer hardware distributor.

I remember reading the following article last year:

Who is the new distributor? Was one ever appointed?

I'm seeing more and more of these in stores. Any thoughts on them?
They are a Dutch product, so they have a bigger following in Europe - even bigger than Garmin.
In SA, Garmin claims to be used by "9 out of 10 ...". I wonder how true that claim is? They WERE here first.

Tom tom is better then Garmin IMO. been using it for ages on my PDA

TomTom and Garmin source maps from the same maps providers.

I've been thinking of ditching Garmin (Nuvi 760 and GMXT on PDA) for TomTom, mainly because TomTom have map updates and downloads off their website, whereas Garmin require you to buy a DVD. With top-up bandwidth costing R64 on Telkom ADSL, it's far cheaper and much more convenient to download maps and updates than to schlep to the store for a more-expensive DVD.

Lol this place can be so full of poop, I have both base models, they are pretty much the same. When you start becoming more specialized, off-road and fishing or whatever else exists out there, then maybe there is a large difference?

Has your question been answered?
A possible answer to your last statement is that TomTom was taken off the market when the it's importing stopped. Six or so months later the new distributor started reintroducing Garmin.
