Get a second opinion. Don't let your child live in pain due to an a-hole.My daughter went to her Doc today with tonsillitis and after her appointment, she sent me an SMS stating;
"After R300 all he said was that I must Google salt water"
Did the doctor say "Google"?
You gargle with salt water.
And after R300 you should be grateful that he didn't prescibe any other expensive medicine.
A-hole? Gargling with salt water (or disprin) is standard treatment for mild tonsillitis.Get a second opinion. Don't let your child live in pain due to an a-hole.

I get the jokeNo. In her young mind she heard "Google" not "gargle". This is meant to be funny.
.......... an a-hole.
If you can't say anything good, don't say it.

tonsillitis is a pretty simple thing for a doctor to diagnose. Besides, at R300 a pop how many opinions do you need for a sore throat?That's why I said get a second opinion. Who's to say it's not mild.
If it wasn't mild the child would have difficulty saying anything and a temperature close to 40 degrees

Doc prescribed antibiotics...
Hope it helps...
should
to prevent a secondary infection?
tonsilitis is generally the secondary bacterial infection. Strep throat. You can just use an antiseptic mouthwash and salt water ect nothing wrong with that to sterilize the area. However if its severely infected like pus on the tonsils itself then you will need a course of antibiotics to treat it as it can progress to bronchitis.
Its difficult to say without actually seeing the state the tonsils are in. Also could be prescribed as prophylaxis
