Hi all

I have once again tried to apply for ADSL, now they tell me that I am too far from the exchange to have even 192k line installed. Was told that the maximum distance is 5km and I am currently around 6-6.5km (they not sure where cable goes)

Now my question..

Anyone know if I will be able to have line work even if im outside of the max distance...?

I could force them to install it anyhow, but dont want to waste my money for instillation only to have it not work, then pay again for them to convert back to standard line.

Ive heard a few people on this site, that are further then 5km from the exchange, and have ADSL access, so yeh, its possible but not guarenteed :P

I'm geussing the line quality wil be degraded, just like with a wireless provider. But shurely speeds of 192kb/p are possible over 6km on cables? How pathetic is the ADSL technology if it cant handle that?

However I think you might rather want to check out your other options first, a degraded 192kb line isnt really a amazing internet experience.

I agree if you're only getting 192 and you're that far from the exchange you'll probably get ISDN speeds so yeah you should look at wireless maybe?
