Okay so I am bored this morning and stumbled across this on the internet

There are quite a few serious problems according to this list with the PS3...

At the moment the Sixaxis is apparently vulnerable to random demonic possession. It probably has something to do with all that psychic egg flinging. From time to time it just wigs out and drives your car into a wall, or makes your soldier wander round in circles. Depending on whether it's a software or hardware problem this could be a quick fix or a full on recall situation. Either way, it's becoming the topic of some discussion. If it's simply a wireless sync problem, shouldn't the fact that you pair the controller using a USB cable solve that?

One of the reasons for dropping the extra $100 for 60GB PS3 is the inclusion of Wi-Fi support. Sadly, it's not as easy to set up as you might hope. Try punching in a 26-digit WEP code with that telephone interface. Now try it when every time you enter a character an asterisk replaces it so you can't keep track of what you've done. If it's busted, count on informative error messages like "A connection error has occurred (8013013E)" and a manual with helpful hints like "Follow the onscreen instructions." It's only topped by the aid offered on PlayStation.com: "We're working hard to improve our Support section. Check back soon to see our full selection of support topics and resources." Thanks!

I really am starting to feel sorry for Sony and the PS3.... It's not looking good for them currently.

Classic :)

Now I ask you with tears in my eyes, who on earth would develop a system that hides the WEP code while you are typing it in?

I was also wondering, don't they have a search function built in. I kind of hacked my wi-fi connection on my Xbox but the router I used just did a search and then asked for my passkey... Easy enough really.

I think Sony would love to call these issues as "features" seeing they really want to distance the PS3 from being a console... perhaps being a "PC" it has inherited the usual PC problems? :p

Yeah but even my 386 running Win 95 could multitask :D...

But the number 1 problem of the PS3 is blatantly obvious. It doesn't have any games to play on it...

I saw an article today where an analyst was saying how his initial expectations for sales where way to high. Since they missed the boat big time over xmas he now expects them to only sell 4.5 million by March instead of 6 million. I still think his expectations may be a bit to high...

Only time will tell though

bottom line is PS3 sucks baboon's b@lls

I think that if SOny had the numbers ready for sale over Xmas they woulda done okay....since they missed that boat, PS3 sales will be considerably less.....One should not underestimate the power fo compulsive purchases over xmas and just the general hype around the system at that time.

They will not be able to rely on next xmas to get the same kind of hype. IMO missing this years xmas boat will have lasting effects on the PS3 sales figures!!!

Well, regardless how many baboon's it takes the fan base is so large it will be picked up in large numbers anyways... and most of these folk will gladly play PS1 & PS2 games on it regardless of how crappy Sony keep the firmware updated or not.

The current standings in the console market though will be quite evenly split between the 3 big names. But guess who will dominate when the next big round of future-gen consoles arrives? ;)

It's only plus point is it's a helluva cheap Blu Ray player...too bad Blu Ray seems to have lost the HD DVD race :(

Yeah that's true... the only problem really being the fact that we don't have any Blu-Ray movies in SA :)

I ain't joining the race until I see who really wins. Worst case scenario I will buy a dual player.

Built in players suck. The PS2 one bombed, the Xbox one was sucky. I haven't even watched a single DVD on my 360 yet.

Now that the 360 might start downloading movies in SA why would I want a HDDVD or Blu-Ray anyway?

It's a little funny. We, as in most of us on these boards, are relatively tech savy and connected. We watch the Sony train wreck in wonderment of how the heck it could be going so wrong.

But we're not most folks. Heck I don't think we even count as "some" folks in ZA ;)

Joe public doesn't see the mess, Joe public doesn't even understand what HDTV/IPTV/BR/HDDVD is He knows that the PS3's got HDMI which MUST make it better than the 360 (cuz it's got one you know and the 360 doesn't hey!) even though they still only use the bundled composite RCA cable on their old 54cm TV.

i walk into Incredible connection and hear the Sales drones harping "Oh wait till you see the PS3" to customers looking at the 360, while the things plugged into a 32" LCD set to Standard def, with the component cables and the reds not plugged in!

Joe Public knows ****. When he starts buying next gen, Sony's going to be happy.

Talking about Joe public.

I was having a chat with a non-tech savy mate the other day about Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. The first thing he says after I mention the names?

Oh HD-DVD must be the good one, I have heard about HD.... So maybe the Sony marketing army has missed something here?

IMO looking at the present consoles its clear to me that graphics do not NEED to get better and consoles do not NEED to be more powerful.....IMO graphics are good enough and do not need to get mcuh better than what they are now. If increased power is used to add depth to games then fine. but if power is used simply to pump out more pollygons then I wont waste my money. Never have wasted money on a Sony console and never will....

why not wait till you get one then see for yourselfs,I think these threads are useless due to the fact its not a main stream object yet.And by the time we get it in pal form many probs wil be ironed out .capish

I think it's a bit naive to think just because there is no PAL version all these problems they are experiencing don't count.

They released to the two biggest gaming markets and have not had a very good reception. I think it is very fair to discuss the issues with the console and to help put pressure on Sony to fix them quickly instead of doing the normal Sony trick and ignoring them.

So glad you guys agree the ps3 is toss: its too expensive, it overheats. Games look good but that 'Fastest cpu ever' is a nightmare for programmers due to its build.I was so upset when they killed the sega saturn, dreamcast, and sega as a console maker due to sonys popularity. The xbox 360 with its sexy look ,decent price, good [not great] games will kick the radiation out of ps3.I take it nobody likes nintendo?Their games albeit slightly childish are the most addictive on the planet.SHIGERU MIYAMOTO IS GOD!!Its power may not be as great as its competitors but its originality[THE CONTROL]will keep it alive waaaaay longer then its rivals especially as the japs go crazy for it.pity MICROSOFT AND NINTENDO COULDNT MERGE!Power and creativity would be unrivalled and sony will make another betamax recorder mwa ha ha!

Well I recall my reason for buying a PS2 (as opposed to the original X-Box) as being the fact that the number of games exclusive to the PS2 was much higher than the X-Box (seeing as though much of what was on the X-Box made it to PC and visa versa)

This time around i'm going to be hardpressed for a replacement for my aging PS2. On the one hand what i mentioned above remains true to a certain degree. I'm sure we'll more and more cross platform games, but i would probably go for a PS3 just to be sure.

The trouble with the logic above is that the PS3 has been accused of being a failure waiting to happen at the moment with rumors flying about claiming that Sony might consider pulling the Blue Ray from PS3 due to prophecies of it being a doomed format, production cost, etc. Dunno about all that...it's a bit early to say methinks. As for the bugs they can be expected from the first few versions of a new console. Just look at the X-Box 360's launch time consoles (random crashes/overheating/etc)

Another point as i close my GameSpot window: Just looking at the specs when compared to the X-Box, the PS3 should be annihilating it's Microsoft competitor. A quick comparison on Gamespot shows that the opposite is true with the PS3 suffering from blurry textures/screen effects and some substantial lag when compared to the X-Box versions of the same games. Very strange indeed.

I believe the principal culprit of PS3 games underperforming thus far is the rather complicated Sony SDK and the current lifecycle of the PS3 itself which isnt even a year old.

Within 1 or 2 years the developers should have harnessed Sony's SDK and could be releasing the games which will make the PS3 worth it. Sadly by that time the X360 will only be getting better since the MS SDK would have been improved to even impress us even more.

Overall this kind of close competition benefits us, gamers, the most. :)
