Top 30 TV shows on DStv

So instead of have a "Top 10 pirated movies" article every week, we now going to have a "Top 30 TV shows on DStv"?

Didn't know they aired so many shows.

Surprised only eight of the top thirty shows were sporting events, considering how "important" sports are…

How exactly did the BRCSA measure television audiences in July 2016?

At first I thought it might be a statistical projection based on spam calling random people at different times of the day to see if they say they are busy watching DSTV and then hang up without mentioning the channel they are watching, but I doubt that kids would even answer the phone if they are busy watching TV:

21/07/2016 1556 Boomerang Tom & Jerry Tales 326,693 10.3%

The list of thing I would rather do than watch any of those shows, besides Tom & Jerry Tales and sporting events, which shouldn't be included in a top 30 shows list, is near endless.

18/30 shows from Mzansi Magic, a single channel, and 8 for the various Supersport channels. July is off season for cricket, football. Mzanzi magic available for R 345.00 and rugby would be R 759.00. "important" - did I fall for the troll?

SuperSport 1 Rugby Build up 343,669 9.4%, versus actual event Vodacom Super Rugby 2016:Lions vs Sharks 320,737 7.6%. There might have been another event that captured the audience at 5pm, or South Africans prefer the presenters over the rugby with 23000 fewer tuned in to the match. 7% is rather a large margin for error.

So they lock in the Rugby at premium and turns out it only has a 7.6% audience share because of that. Great tactic guys. (Or are they fixing the price so people would go to the game instead?

Imagine the advertising they can sell if that figure would rise substantially.

Make a sports package or make premium a bit cheaper. Just by R100pm.

Of all those shows, the only two I've ever heard of are Idols SA and Vodacom Super Rugby, literally.

Watching grass grow is more interesting than any of those 30 shows.

Kodi FTW.

Plot this against the affordability of the channels.
Most people can't afford the ludicrous rates that DSTV has for their barely-decent content.

Audience measurements is not the same as subscriptions. A measurement of households on those will show a truer value to Multichoice in terms of subscription revenue. Advertising revenue is interesting as well. Spending power, what was the Tom and Jerry audience worth? Mostly package subscriptions I would say. I won't speculate which of rugby / Africa magic is more lucrative advertising revenue per show. Football/Rugby is costly though, have no idea about shows on Mzansi Magic.

It is not a simple matter of audience numbers, subscriptions are important too.

We have the compact package and if I have to tell you how many times I have seen War of the Worlds in the last few months, around the 8-10 timeslot, you'd think Im lying. Probably 6-7 times.

Boring as **** but we keep the 3year old entertained on 302 most of the time.

How many entries in the top 30 were repeats of a single episode of idols? :P
