Top apps on Android for 2016

Apps I have that work well,
Airdroid
Bitcoin ticker widget
Vlc
Google keep
C cleaner, although has a few issues with marshmallow
Open signal
Fanfiction.net
Private lotto machine
And torque

Games,
Relic run
Angry birds 2, although struggling to replace my current save
Hungry shark evo

I highly recommend everyone use the following few apps:

Brave Browser - identical to Chrome but no ads.
DigiCal+ - best calendar by miles imo
Fenix - best Twitter client by miles imo
Swipe Pro - best FB client by miles imo
BlueMail - best email client since CloudMagic/Newton fell off the deep end.
TrueMessenger - great sms replacement app that filters spam.
Camera Zoom FX - still the camera king.
Foto Gallery - best gallery since QuickPic went to hell imo.

So let's turn this into a useful thread:

Apps I discovered this year (new or old) and still use:
- Play Music (actually subscribed)
- Google Photoscan
- Pinterest
- Play Newsstand

Games:
- Dungeon Hunter 5
- Asphalt Xtreme

I use Deezer. Is Play Music better?

Better? In which area?
Music selection and UI. I have a Deezer subscription so not using the free version.

Perhaps MyBroadband should do an updated comparison review of the streaming services. I recall seeing one a while back.

Apple Music is the best value by far if you have a family that listens to music. R90 for 6 people at the same address to have their own accounts. Play Music doesn't have a family sub in SA yet.

iTunes has come a long way - not early as unpleasant as it used to be. I love being able to have my own music and Apple Music stuff together seamlessly. Your uploaded music is available on all other devices, you aren't limited to only downloading playlists for offline use and Apple Music has a lot of exclusive stuff compared to rival services. Ratings with 5 stars has been very useful to me too, as it gives a more detailed record of what I thought about each track.

As someone who dislikes Mac and iPhone, and Apple in general, Apple Music has absolutely won me over.

Yes. But the android app is simply terrible.

It's not bad. Updates have improved it a lot. Doesn't take so long to sync playlists and library now. Play Music doesn't work properly in Firefox, so that's a much bigger shortcoming imo.

I sorted my mom out with Apple Music on her iPad Pro and the Music app is pretty terrible in iOS. Very user unfriendly. The poor use of screen real estate is bewildering. Fortunately the Android app is totally different, and imo much easier to use.

If Play Music offered the family plan in SA I would have taken it over Apple Music, so it's purely Google's fault I don't use their service. Apple does have a much higher upload allowance for your private music files though, which is nice.

Yeah bragging about exclusives just shows you what a douche Apple is and why people are still forced to pirate. Point is it's 2016 and Apple music is still not on the web at icloud.com :wtf: I've used the android app when it came out of beta and it still sucked. Maybe they fixed it in two months... There was a lab for 5 star ratings that they canned. Either you like a song or you don't really. With the new Google music you don't have to like/unlike anyway Google's neural network will learn what you like or not. 50 000 personal songs is more then enough I just upload the albums that's not available anyway so not much.

Family plans will come here soon er rather then later.

Bear in mind I'm talking as someone who would likely switch to Play Music the moment that they introduce the family plan to SA. Very few countries currently support Play Music family plans, so I'm not optimistic that we'll get them any time soon.

5 star ratings has been incredibly useful to me. 5 stars = godlike, 4 = excellent, 3 = decent, 2 = kinda bad, 1 = godawful (doesn't matter which of the last two is selected). There's also a heart button for some reason, so for me: heart + 5 stars = hall of fame. Having so much control over song ratings is really nice for when I return to albums or create playlists. It's definitely not a case of liking or not liking a song. I want to differentiate and easily find my most liked music.

I don't like exclusive content on any platform, but it has been nice having access to it. Live shows, early album releases, quite a bit of music that isn't on Simfy or Play Music at all etc.

Another major benefit is Apple's renewed interest in curated playlists. They're so good right now they're on par with Spotify or not far behind imo. And that's a huge benefit to a music service. Discovering new music is pretty much the most important aspect.
