Top developers in SA?

@Qix: OK, I now understand. You guys are growing, have no idea (sorry not in a bad way) of where to go from here with regards to the technology you will use but are open to ideas (good approach) to achieve your goals.

Sounds like an average day at work for me.

Question is: Do you have good coffee, and I really mean GOOD?

So you've been involved in web platforms that get about 25,000+ hits a day that has to do inter transactions with c++ mechanisms, and do load balancing to ensure the most minimal turn around time with database transactions?

I don't get it?

Is this thread is supposed to be about a user Qix looking for developer for his company. Then you respond making comments with the said company in your signature. WTF.

PS. Don't piss people off. Your companies reputation is at stake.

10 post wonder.

Well I'm prevented from divuluging our companies volumes but in our industry 25K transactions an day would mean their is something seriously wrong with your business module. We use erlang across our servers (local hosted and Amazon).

Personally I'm currently just focusing on an internal callcenter application that can auto process 8K volumes an hour (DB queries, post processing, restful updates, blah, blah, blah). Its rather industry specific so nothing to brag about unless your in the WASP industry.

Lol

I am co-founder of SnapBill. I am not trying to piss anyone off. I was merely placing Jason into context :).

We have offices in Pretoria and our development team will be based in Cape Town at the moment. Although we are keeping our options open for a developer located anywhere.

@cbr - No im not in the WASP industry.

I also work on back office solutions, but like you i cannot divulge exactly what it is, but suffice to say everyone in the country go's through it:)

.....annnd back on topic, or at least a little bit on topic

I have a stash of very good turkish coffee, but not everyones a fan of that.

To be honest we don't have much set up, and yes - we are new to hiring. Whoever joins will be our first developer hire. Please don't take that to mean we're a small risky startup though. Yes we are small (and a startup), but we've already got contracts with a couple big companies and our hosting reseller has been in business for two years already.

We're open to setting up however we want, and my personal focus is going to be on the developer experience. Provided we can somehow find the right people, a lot of our focus is going to be towards making their work experience as good as possible.

And back off topic, you used Silverstripe? The forum integration was easy?

@Qix: Where in Cape Town do you guys plan to open up?

This is always an issue with us in Cape Town as we seriously hate driving more than 1km.

And on startups, well all companies where startups once. You at least have the advantage of starting up fresh.

On the Coffee: I'll see if I can get some Turkish from my dealer. They do mostly Arabic and South American.

I'm in Claremont at the moment and love this part of Cape Town, so hopefully somewhere around here *but* it really depends on the best place for the whole team. We're also quite open to the idea of odd hours and telecommuting, although not for the first few months.

I am loving the startup thing for everything except hiring, and dealing with the excessive work loads as a result of not hiring effectively a few months ago.

On the Coffee: Turkish coffee is 80% in the preparation, but it is always nice to have good beans too.

Yes the front-end uses SilverStripe :)

@Raithlin I assume you have some SilverStripe experience?

A little. I bought the book too, and am busy implementing one of my client's static sites with SS. Stunning framework.

Great, I bought that book aswell. :).

I was co-founder of the SilverStripe Club, but Covenant Solutions in the UK bought it from us earlier this year. :(

Still love the idea of SilverStripe.

@FarligOpptreden Ek het gewonder wie het almal die Afrikaans gedoen. Awesome!
