Last night I watched "Top Gear Austalia" on BBC 120.

What a shambles. What a load of crap. Bunch of copy cats. Dare I say it, even the Top Gear USA series is better. This has to be one of the WORST shows on BBC.

Can't really accuse them of being copy cats - it is an official Top Gear[sup]TM[/sup] show after all. That being said, it was indeed painful to watch. There's zero chemistry between the presenters, their feature insert was banal, the accents drive me up the wall & their track is shyte.

Couldn't make it through the whole hour... indeed.

My eyes bled after watching the show. Unlike the UK version, they include the statement "...with the usual TopGear lunacy/idiocy/etc" before a segment starts. One would expect Season 2 to be better but alas. The show sounds staged, scripted and forced with waaay to much emphasis on trying to be like the UK edition. And the Aussie Stig is fat too.

DSTV should catch a fscking wake-up. Show more current seasons of the UK show instead of the knock-off Aussie version. It is not Masterchef Aus, not by a long shot.

Yeah, I can't un-see the first ten minutes of the show, no matter how much I rinse my eyes... Awful, just awful.

The Aus one isn't great, and ANY Top Gear that comes out will prob NEVER be as good as the British one, but to say the US one is better than the AUS one i'd have to disagree with... Those bloody Yanks drive me up the wall and then right thru it!

They are just starting though - wasn't top gear UK also pretty kak when it started, they then became better over the seasons as budget grew of course.

I don't dislike it to such an extent.

My beef is with people trying to do what has been done before. I mean Top Gear is a BRILLIANT program. It's very successful and anything trying to use that same formula will just not gel well. Best is to do something different to compete with it instead of using it.

Makes any sense?

Top Gear UK is hugely successful because of 2 things: the formula and the presenters. I suspect many other networks would jump at the chance of transplanting the formula to their own programming, but it CANNOT work if the presenters don't mesh. All the more so where there's a bit (or a lot) of silliness involved. I think Top Gear Aus. and UK are perfectly illustrative of programming decided upon in a boardroom, where network execs had their eyes glaze over at sight of all the $$$ signs they were seeing.

Take the silliness out & you're left with a straight-up motoring magazine show. Fifth Gear shows this can work, you just can't call it Top Gear. If Jezza isn't involved - love or loathe him - it just ain't Top Gear.

@Hemps: Very true that is! In the first season of Top Gear UK, the set was so empty and loads of empty spaces, but grew over time... I think the Yanks and the Aussies got it easy as they are just driving off all the start up that UK had to go thru... US and AUS wont have all the startup issues with popularity and budget as they are using a succesfull and existing name that HAS been established, but as you say.. its new... Lets see where they are in a season or two...

@Pitbull: People have tried to make a competitive show, EG 5th Gear.. Look where that's ended up on the popularity ratings. I dont think ANY car show will ever top what the Top Gear UK team has done... Just my opinion tho

Yep, they had about 16 people in the audience on the first day...studio looked shoddy. The reasonably priced car didn't have a roll cage in episode 1 and the helmet JK wore in ep2 was full face so you couldn't even see him.

Also, season 1 had Jeremy, Richard and Dave, not James. Dave was the chubby car sales man. He wasn't bad, but not cut out to be a presenter of that magnitude. Having said that, he still had more charisma than the RPM-shades-wearing-bunch combined.

Oddly enough my favourite out of the 3 current ones is James. He's not a philistine like the other two. :p

Yea i wasn't too fond of Dave tbh! Kinda felt like he was a waste of space... (alot of space at that)

As for James... Yea he is great! Dont have a favorite... But some of the comments that come outta that mans mouth just crack me up! and his ramblings on about absolutely nothing! HAHAHA

I've always liked James....

He's just so properly British that it works...

This is one thing I disliked about the Australian one.

The new guy they added is suppose to be the "James" of the Australian show. Music degree and all /facepalm

I loved the one where he is on one of the most dangerous roads in the world. There is no guard rail and the cliffs are insanely steep and high. They drove 4x4. As Jezza would be, he had a LandRover. Anyway, Hammond broke down and James helped him. So Jezza all on his own drove away from them. Only to meet a Massive truck on the road and he is on the cliff's side. So he had to move over for the truck to pass.

I could smell his fear. Even when they where done passing he pulled over just to get his nerves back :D I PISSED MYSELF !
