CNN Money and PayScale.com recently published their list of great careers, which included the top tech jobs
 
Is a security consultant not a stressful job? It almost impossible to keep people out if they really want to get in.
 
I see "Consultant" and I want to hurl !

There are very few quality consultants in SA - most of them are chancers trying to make a quick buck. Not to mention the "pimps" (Placement Agencies) trying to "sell" these guys to companies. If you are really that good you would be permanently employed and retained because of your value and knowledge of a certain corporate or industry.

Depends on the form of consultancy. For specialized tasks it's often not worth it for a company to keep someone on staff permanently and they prefer hiring a consultancy firm to take care of issues when they crop up.
 
A good software developer will encompass all the other job titles.
 
Biggest hurdle i think currently is getting into a good position with a company that does full development lifecycle with docs, review etc. Do that with java, .net etc and you awesome fast :)

Almost all those people in other jobs can say that same. An InfoSec specialists who doesnt understand code is pretty useless.

This is kind of what's required these days. Or at least the ability to understand the "big picture". It's no good coding some huge data capture and processing app if you're clueless about the db. Equally, it's no good designing an amazing, complicated n-tier architecture if you have no idea about the network infrastructure or the platforms - etc etc. You can specialise in one aspect but to be of any use you have to have some experience and a good understanding of everything else. This is very rare these days, though.
