Top up contracts and LTE

OMG!!! How many times do we have to hash this story over and over again. Can you read other threads or do a search on the forums?

It seems to be a function of the media; a question is answered and 2 days later the same questions is asked. Often by the same people.

Oh, we just like you Jannie !

Anyway, I am impressed that you read all these threads, and that you respond :D

Edit : Jannie, that Vodacom tower next to the Wanderers Golf Clubhouse, does that have LTE ?

Jannie, so why can't the guys with lte devices and topup contracts not even access 3g services? Now they are expected to change contract while Vodacom sits on its butt doing squat about taking care about the guys who trusts Vodacom more than their contract clients. I feel like vomiting in my mouth...

Got no idea what you mean?

Any LTE device can access the 3G network, no problem. Unless you forced it to 4G-only?

A friend of mine got himself a note 2 (lte), and he is on a topup contract, but as soon as he configures it to use 4G or 3g it disconnects from the network completely (sim not registered on netwotk), so he contacted 111 several times, went to a couple of vodashops and went to vodacare but all they could tell him is to change to a lte enabled contract or keep using 2g only. So he has to tether WiFi on his old android just to have a data connection.... Sounds to me like someone is screwing up, bigtime, and it's not my friend.

From the symptoms, the phone is set to try and connect on LTE. It clearly does this successfully, but because it's a Topup SIM, nothing will work.

The phone must be set to 3G-only. Or he must put a contract SIM in.

Yes, I am using LTE modems for 3G - [-]bit of a waste when you have good LTE in your area ![/-]
Jannie was referring to Xyler saying that people using a LTE modem cant access 3G...which is not true.
I think Jola was actually agreeing with Jannie. ;)

Which APN is your friend's phone configured to use?

I am not sure, default... Out of the box.

It acts the same for 3g and 4g, he can only use 2g.

He configured it to auto (all network types), did not work.
configured it to 3g only, same problem.
2g he can take phone calls and SMS and I think up to EDGE data connection.

Similar to what Jannie said.

1. Disable LTE on the phone completely, so it only connects to 3G or 2G.
2. Make sure your APN is set to 'internet' and not 'lte.vodacom.za'
3. Reset the phone and/or network settings and confirm the above again.
4. Also try a "manual network" selection as an alternative.

Thanks. Will try that

Maybe they working on REAL time RADIUS! Whereby data gets deducted immediately without any delay.. That way if you download 1gig it reflects immediately instead of 1.5 gig shown. :) I find it really ironic and strange that they don't work on making it work for prepaid/top up customers surely everyone should benefit or do they want to see if contract consumers/business customers are happy with LTE service just to keep them on board.

They just want to monitor the usage and make sure that there is no bill shocker. Just imagine waking up 1 morning to an account of R1 million, goodbye house, goodbye car, goodbye wife and kids :).

Hopefully in the near future we will see stunning data packages to use on LTE network :)

It works. Thank you nuyork & Jannie.

Hi All, i am back after so many months. I feel so bad that i only come to forums when i have problems :p

Ok, so my client only orders top up data (by the hundreds). Iv delayed ordering of LTE modems because of this. ok i come here and im glad someone is working on it. hopefully it will be there before easter.

Ok, so i also had problems with LTE devices not switching back to 3G if LTE is not avaialable and my Q's have been answered as well. Im too lazy to search those forums where it was discussed, can someone send me a link? Ok, now my next Q without starting a new thread is: how come i get faster speeds on 3G than LTE in some areas (pretoria in particular).

by the way: i did a speedtest in midrand yesterday and got 30mbps damnit thats fast!
