TopTV & GlobeCast FTA on Sirius 4

Would you be able to use a dstv decoder on that dish for this ? I know you can change the frequency and have multiple networks setup...

I connected my DSTV 1110 decoder to the TopTV dish and an error message appeared which stated that the decoder cannot connect to the DSTV service. I couldn't change any setting at all. :(

It may be interesting to try it the other way around, since the Top decoder is compatible with the DSTV signal (but not for decoding).

remember some new dstv decoders are made specifically for is7/10 or intelsat 7/10 what its now called. there should be a list of satellites it can connect to in the network settings. scroll thru the the network settings to see if sirius 4 is listed.

Press menu, settings, system setup, 0-0-0-0 submit, installation setup, satelite setup, press green btn (for "entry point"), press yellow to edit entry point.

only 2 can be edited, sirius-5 Tp BSS7 (DVB-S) and sirius-5 Tp BSS9 (DVB-S2).

Haven't done anything yet though...

These entry points are for sirius 5 and is due to be launched mid 2011 as per this link.

Yes,they'll use Astra 4B,the African satellite that'll be connected to Sirius 5 for plenty more Toptv channels,HD package, and some kind of triple play solution with the launch of the SES broadband product, called Astra2connect.

That's why i laugh at the okes spreading the rumour that Toptv is gonna add 50 channels which will includes 10 HD channels BEFORE end of this year.Only they will know where the transponder space will come from.

I really hoped I would be able to access BVN for now. The other goodies will come in good time.

Is that not perhaps what Astra 1E is for? TopTV is also on that satellite. http://www.lyngsat-address.com/tt/Top-TV-ZA.html

Astra 1E is the uplink (for toptv) from Germany by APS,also a SES company. From there it gets beamed to Sirius 4.

Astra2connect on Astra 1e is for Europe use,we can't pick up that satellite here.

BVN on Sirius 4

I hooked my old dstv decoder to the toptv disk and manualy filled in the parameters for other netwok. (see lyngsat.com) I get 80% signal and 10% quality for the BNV transponder G6. I will try again later if I can get better reception. First I have to wait for activation of TopTV.

I briefly connected my FTA decoder to the TOPTV dish and it picked up a number of open channels. Can't remember the channels though.

Loads of Frees on Sirius 4 4.8 degrees...

Lots of free channels on Sirius 4 at 4.8°E see here: http://www.lyngsat.com/sirius4.html. Can someone try the technical stuff i.e. loading the frequencies in. I could do it on DStv but I don't want to take chances in TopTV coz I don't know how their support is. They may not be able to resort my normal system if something goes wrong. Its still new.
