TopTV Playboy TV decision date set

If ICASA BS's on this, TopTV should take them to court for failing to adhere to their own regulations.

I don't have TopTV & won't be getting it for the sake of their porn. But this sets a valuable precedent for our freedoms. And to also, yet again, hilight ICASA's incompetence as an effective and efficient regulator.
 
This whole hoo-ha is more about Icasa having been caught with their pants down than the possibility of seeing anything remotely similar on TV.

There was a discussion on the whole TopTV Playboy issue on TalkRadio 702 a few days ago.
If I got the drift of the discussion correctly, the programming will not be aired on their normal chanels.
You would have to subscribe seperately, pay an additional R200, and have to give proof of age.
There will also be no adverts on the normal channels highlighting the programs, that might unintentionally show something deemed unsuitable for immature or inappropriate audiences.
In other words, if you don't want to watch it, you won't be able to see it.

There is so much of the stuff available on the interweb, on mobi sites and through sexting already that adding 3 channels to pay TV is in my opinion not going to make any difference.

I agree with everything that has been said here. ICASA is like a newpaper scam. "Do you want to get paid to do nothing? Ask me how. Phone 0800 ICASA"
 
Sex is part of life, natural, and everybody will do it. it's really part of being alive, no matter what organism you are.
-but this is password protected, so anybody that shouldn't see it (like children), can't, because the can't access it. - no harm, no foul.

Religion on TV though, can cause multiple problems:
- people do not want the churches of other religions to be in their homes - I do not want to see other religions as they have "false Gods", only mine is correct.
- child sees christian worshiping when he is part of any other religion, this could cause confusion and questioning his whole life.
- atheist homes do not want this at all, the channel shouldn't be forced into a bouquet that's always visible.

For a person that believes in a God that isn't represented on TopTV, to have the christian God rammed down his throat without choice, is offensive.


So the question is: why aren't Religious channels Password protected? :confused:
 
At least they forced ICASA's hand in the matter. Now at least a descision can be made.
 
It would have been lovely to see a decision saying that ICASA couldn't do anything about it. Oh well.

That would be self defeating, as it would set predicent on other issues. The kind of precident that we wouldnt want.
 
Why instead of spending 1000-s rands on a porn channel and a "battle" to air it , TopTV is not doing anyting about the annoyingly missing sport channels ???
Unless you count the sex as a sport ....
However , I thought it's better when its a "Participating sport" and not a "sit and watch" sport.:confused:

Maybe a porn channel is cheaper? Besides, with sport there is competition with dstv. With porn, no competition except for the free stuff on the net.

Completely correct.

I'd probably get Toptv when I have kids one day, but I'd want the religious channels blocked. Young children are impressionable. Hide the porn yes, but then hide the religious stuff too.

Because a boring sermon by Jimmy Swaggart trumps watching a young woman getting gang banged by men in various positions while she eggs them on with expletives reserved only for a drunken sailor.
