TopTV - Whats on?

Well, DSTV will definitely find out that I won't pay R550 just to watch rugby (when available). The other content is just repeats or rubbish on DSTV. I do not want millions of stations, Only rugby and a few movie channels and news. So now I get TopTV cause I get many movie channels and many news channels. I will watch rugby at the local Pub when available.

Reminding ourselves that this thread is titled "What's On" - it's more than curious that there is still no sign of an online program guide. An online program guide is MANDATORY for a product launch of this nature, not a 'coming soon' feature. That's quite unacceptable. It's not rocket science and they've had lot's of time to establish the website and test it prior to commercial launch.

Given the planning that goes into a commercial launch, I feel that ODM is not just sagging under the strain, they are showing that their management team have poor project management skills (possibly none).

The investment to launch Top TV must have been huge, so how come the product launch (apart from the glitzy Sandton party, which was likely organised by another company) has been so dogged with problems?

Like a number of others, I will wait out the initial rush to subside and only buy when I'm sure that this product has what I want, since I'm 'Cost Conscious'. That will only happen when I can browse the on-line program guide. My early adopter days are over. :D

Here's some samplings of what's showing on the stations http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?229169-Links-to-Toptv-International-Channel-Websites. I'm contacting installers tomorrow and I'll try post some info once I'm online.

While I think the lack of an online TV Guide is probably going to come back to bite them, you probably find they've been so blown away by the huge response that they haven't had the time to sort one out yet. Considering how much effort it takes to setup this kind of venture I really doubt there's any truth to what Cost Conscious is saying when he says "they are showing that their management team have poor project management skills (possibly none)". They've certainly handled their PR surrounding the overwhelming response really well, and have managed to beef up their call centre in under a week which is great. In my mind it shows that they can respond to a "crisis" quickly.

I'm looking forward to some old series (my favourite), and from the looks of the music channels I think I'll have yet one more reason to not listen to the radio. :)

Here is some content information for some of TopTv's own channels

Top One - A heartbeat away, Brothers and sisters 1, Lalola 1, The fairy tailer, Family court with judge penny, Kyle XY 1, Platinum Wedding, The locator, Dirt 1,

Top Crime - Lance of longinus, Tropical heat, 18 wheels of justice, Cold squad, Tsunami, Relic hunter, Rex - a cop's best friend

Top History - Buries alive, China rises, Egypt, Embedded '45 - shooting war, Castro, Animal armageddon,

Other channels worth an extra mention

Discovery science looks proper - none of those reality crap flooding other discovery channels

Q (music channel) - The White stripes live. Don't see that on DSTV ever.

Looks proper for R249 a month. Definitely better value than DSTV compact.

Not bad at all :) I am loving the Top Movies + Silver and Fox FX and looking at Showtime AFRICA site (it is not WOW, but I am sure there will always be something to watch.... my installer will be here b4 Tuesday ... I am excited)

I was stoked to see Titanic over the weekend on Top Movies, as I haven't seen it in years.
Alas, it seems to have been made in the same year that the Titanic crashed. I was thoroughly disappointed. Bleh.

http://www.toptv.co.za has a link for a tv guide but it isn't up yet so nobody knows the content unless they have already had an installer come and activate their decoder. Once that link is up we can get an idea what sort of content there is. I for one am first waiting to see what content is available before I go out and frantically buy a decoder. :wtf:
You can view the unofficial TopTV tv guide at: http://www.nantage.com

More details about the interface can be found in "The unofficial TopTV tv guide" thread.

The Closer!

I watched 'The Closer' last night on Top One.

I wonder what happened to it on DStv? Nice to be able to watch it.
