TopTV - Whats on?

For the R250 i would just get uncapped internet.

As those series season are years behind, and can find links to download those episodes all over the internet.

Incorrect, I'm afraid. Although "analogue" does mean "having an analogy to", grammatically it is not used in the context you used it.
But I digress.
 
Well considering Top TV is aiming at low income and middle income households then this is perfect ... not many of those people can take Uncapped out .. unless all you had to pay was only R250 ... but then you have to add on line rental X 2 it all gets a bit much for Top Tv's projected audience.

and i bet most of the target market dont own a pc either let alone an internet connection
 
What's On? is the title of this thread, but is there any discussion going on around Multichoices' decision to refuse to licence TopTV to carry any of its sports content?

I think that in Europe, Multichoice could be taken to court for abuse of dominant position. Refusal to licence material for which they have exclusive rights restricts competition. When Cell C started, if Vodafone and MTN had reused to connect calls to them, Cell C would have been still-born.

Do we have any SA lawyers in the house who have a view on the legal position on whether DSTV is acting in an anti-competitive manner and abusing it's dominant position? Or is this strategy perfectly legal?

I think as long as people are realistic about what you can get for R250, they wont be disappointed.

If im right about where many of the channels were sourced from, we can expect plenty of old shows and old movies.

The real potential lies would be with channels like Top One, where toptv has complete control over the content. It could be as outdated as SABC or they could get new programming like MNet. Well probably get some in between, until they have enough subscribers to buy more expensive and newer shows.

Thats my 2 cents for now.

Please note that out of the Millions of House with TV, MC has 2million, so whatever TOpTv brings on the table...is worth for a Million of subscribers....
What about MC lately, if i aint Mistaken, it was a saturday movie last month, they showed Men In Black (1998 movie) In HD (170) and I was fustrated, thinking to myself, im paying for HD access (R650.00) to watch MIB, that was humiliating, lets just give ODM a chance guys:
 
If the Discovery science tv schedule is accurate I would be very interested. Getting bored of watching all the doom and gloom they show on MC these days. Nostradamus this and comet that and then if you're lucky something new and interesting.

Anybody know what Top History shows?

Its all in the pipeline,don't worry.

Sky learnt the hard way.First they was forced to sell sportrights to rivals,then 2 months ago they were forced to lower the price.
 
I think people misunderstand TopTV's strategy. They aren't competing with DSTV Premiium - they are offering a low cost alternative to the free-to-air channels.

Keep in mind that you get what you pay for, of course you are going to get more premium content for R600.00 a month than you will for R250.00 but if all you can justify spending on TV for a month is R250.00 well then you are in luck. It is about value more than quality.

If TopTV start broadcasting high quality channels don't be surprised if the cost edges closer to that of DSTV Premium.

Agreed. However, they will likely never be as exorbitant as DSTV are right now.
At the very least, if TopTV catch up with DSTV content-wise, it will create some competition and thereby reduce the cost slightly.
 
Can the BA students/grads please start their own thread for critiquing movies, and not play Barry Ronge in this one? :wtf:

Yes I have, they are a bit far from me, but it seems they are one of the only guys that have dishes. Our local installer (Worcester) say they should have stock by tomorrow, so I will just have to wait.:sick:
 
So there's no Mythbusters on any of the TopTV channels? I was really hoping it'd be on the Discovery Science channel, even if it was old episodes. This makes me a very sad panda, I love that show :(
