Torrenting Killed My Drive!

I was having a piss, standing at the urinal at work, pondering what was causing the spate of recent problems my laptop had been experiencing...

Coming into work in the morning, she had turned herself off,
Middle of the day at work, BSOD

I originally thought it was a heat issue, ran diagnostics.... a tad high but not....
Did a RAM check, all fine...

Did a SYSTEM check, all files were fine...

Uninstalled all programs I had added over the last four months... Still the same...

Uninstalled my paid for AVG.... same issue,

The one thing I never checked was my Toshiba HDD , why should I since I had replaced this a mere 10 months ago...

But I was out of options... ran CrystalDiskinfo..... and there is was, my HD had critical errors and I was advised to backup, mirror and get out of dodge asap....

So ordered a new HD and waiting....

As I shook myself dry I started to wander if my excessive torrenting had attributed to this.... My PC is never turned off and 28 out of 30 days she be torrenting......

Google is my friend and there were multiple answers, most saying torrenting cannot be blamed for killing my HDD , but logically, if you are writing and deleting to a drive continually it should "wear" out quicker...

What say you weekend nightshift warriors, Did Torrenting kill my drive?

Na, how many start stops does the drive have? And how many power on hours?

Also what brand.
 
If you torrented onto your drive, you could kill it. You should rather use an urinal without a drive in it.
 
Something is up, you say the drive is +-10 months old yet crystaldisk says 15370 power on hours which is 1.7 years...

Look here:
#5 - Any non-zero raw value indicate drive problems.
#c5 - a/a. You have 0x188=392 (decimal) pending sectors (waiting for relocation).
#c4 - similar

Hard drive life is finishing, there are no spare sectors available for relocating.

He must return hard drive to the shop ASAP and get money back.

Nah probably not. The HDD probably had isses for a while already.
 
No, torrenting did not kill your drive.

I have a old 2005 laptop that stays on 24/7 serving as a torrent/download box, still on the same hdd with no issues.

HDDs die, it could be within a month of purchase or never. It's just luck of the draw when it comes to HDDs.

Perhaps, but this is a magical drive :whistle: - after all, it's done 21 months worth of "work" in only 10 months! Anything putting in double time like that will eventually die, surprised it lasted as long as it did! :D

I think OP needs to find:
1. A new hardware supplier
2. A new friend
 
I'm assuming Morty had the drive swapped at a not so reputable shop.
