Torrents

hey.

I have a Chronos router, it seems to have the same UI as the telkom router did (says: Conexant - Hasbani in the pages tab) and i cant find anyway to port forward.
there is a NAT Configuration, but it doesnt have anything about port forwarding, i've searched through all the config options and still cant find anything :confused:

I'm new to bittorrent and its downloading at the speed of: 0- 400b (yes bytes =P) and uploading at 0 the whole time, i'm using Azureus btw.

also www.portforward.com has nothing about my router, and yes ive googled =) but still nothing...

p.s Its about the same speed for any torrents i try to download, which sme are popular and some are not

Portforward dosn't seem to be that useful;or maybe I am confused?
it has recommendations for Ports for various programs (am using BitTorrent), so what happens if I set the port on my program as different from recommended, does the prog still work as efficiently?

@theonetheonly
You can use ANY port you want, just change it to something other than the default 6881 (I think). Preferrably change it to something in the 60000-65000 range. Make SURE you configure your router and firewall, and ICS if you use it.

Codemaster, thanx for the input.
But the instructions at Portforward require you to have a static IP address. I though Evil Telkom forced us onto Dynamic IP address's? :confused:

They mean static ip's on your home network. In other words, if you have one or more PC's running through a router, then you need to turn off the DHCP server on the router and assign static IP's.
You need to do this because when you setup port forwarding on the router, you need to put in your PC's IP address, but with DHCP you cannot always be sure you will recieve the same IP adress each time.

Hey i'm using openwebs proxy.. but now me trying to figure out how to use it (ie what to put where)

Socks: free.blazetalk.com 20
Proxy: free.blazetalk.com 443

Username: **********
Password: **********

Now what do i do with it? chekc this out:

[img=http://img301.exs.cx/img301/2425/temp1wf.th.gif]

and the log in bitcomet is "Proxy requires authentification"

but i DO have it in? WTF? and i connect to the tracker but dont transfer anyhting?

any pointers?

Hi Buddha

With bitcomet(and other torrent clients) the only way to use a proxy that requires authentication is to leave the client unauthenticated(dont tick authentication) and to run a local authentication proxy pointing to your proxy of choice.

ie.

bitcomet socks5 setup would read like this:

proxy type: socks or http
address: localhost
port: 1080 (or whatever you want to run your local socks or http proxy on)

leave authentication unticked.

Now you will need to setup a local proxy on your pc or alternative pc to connect to. An easy to use proxy would be ccproxy but if you have an alternative proxy then use that.

Make sure the proxy server you use has support for cascading proxy, so that you can basicly tunnel from bitcomet->local proxy server on your pc->outside proxy of choice, back and forth.

SOZ if this has been posted already..

TELKOMs local loop was down for a couple of days.they put us all onto a secondary loop

Its back up again so should be fine now
