These netbooks were originally based on the US$100 machine, right? The first $100 machine worked out at $200, but still, a jump from R2000 (converted) to R5000 seems to be massive.
The $100 idea was 'a computer for every child', a wonderful idea but unforunately forgotten, and at these prices impossible.
Except for size there doesn't sems any point to buy a netbooks instead of a notebook.

I agree. I like how the EEEPC originally sold for under R2000, but now some models of the Aspire are R8000...

I agree fully ! A 120gb hdd is to big for a netbook I know windows xp sp3 is quite bulky but still a 40gb hdd or a 32gb ssd should be sufficient ! I cant believe hard drive makers like Toshiba haven been cranking out energy efficient 1.8in netbook drives already. As much as these netbook seem cute they just as expensive as low spec'd notebooks which are far more useful. This is suppose to be low cost computing so why dont they use low cost parts !I agree. The netbooks' price should be capped at $300 to qualify as a netbook. $500 is way too much.

Its saving grace is that it is Ubuntu certified ... there are enough geeks out there to support this product because of this.
But I will rather get a Sahara Dual Core for R4700 than buy a > R5k Netbook
