If their is a total Escom grid collapse why will it take weeks to restart the grid and what happens to the synchronisation of the privately operated 3 Phase installations.

You need power to generate power. On the other hand as you generate power you need to use it. Makes it damn neer impossible to just run power plants while starting more and then getting rid of unused production until you can start up another powerplant.

We do have a very little pumped storage which could be used to sink some power into and and help saturate coils when during the whole startup process.

But all in all it is just a complete mess.

Because Botswana won't be able to kickstart Eskom they first need to wait for help to arrive from Cuba. This will take exactly 2 weeks, about the same time as a municipal lunch break.

The 3 phase will undergo transformation and identify as single phase, however, the single phase will not be fazed with 3 phase resulting in noone being fazed about any phase with no phase.

It collapsed at midnight and when the Botswananians woke up it was back on its feet, as if nothing ever happened.

But it's a doll house grid, I doubt ours would be that simple.
No, it wasn't. They were still struggling with outages today.
