Total Grid collaps

Why on earth would we know before it happens? Surely if it does, it's quick?
Load shedding is only happening because they know how much power they have and how much power they need, if there is not enough power than we need is why we have load shedding in the first place
When there is no more load to shed, and all emergency supplies are used nothing else can be done, blackout is in inevitable

Correct. It is coming. Nothing they are doing now is reversing the trend. That trendline screams at us.

Thanks Captain obvious.

I'm looking for a accurate time line expectation from a reliable source.

And your plan then is what?
To prepare accordingly.

Battle down the hatches.

This mybb will be a luxury.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Although I've spent today prepping and my fridges are full.

But the food will go bad once the fridges turn off?

How long do you think we will have cell phone reception?
For the duration of backup battery life (dependant on cell tower and age of batteries - if they haven't been "liberated"
Would fiber still work?
Depends of the operator and its backup system
Would you be able to bank if any of the above worked?
Again, dependant on the bank and its backup power - notwithstanding that most ATMs will not be operational as they do not have any backup power, so good luck getting your hands on any cash
Would water stop?
Yes, most definitely, as there won't be any electricity to power the pumps
Would sewerage stop?
Yes, as electricity is required to pump sewerage to the effluent treatment plant.

I have solar panels on my roof that converts the suns energy into electric energy that charges my Batteries.

These batteries keep my fridge cold.

But I would love to know asap when the grid actually does go down... My food will be fine, but communication however will be done.

My guess is Twitter then?

Ramaphosa will have a family meeting, they will know its happening 12 -18 hours before it does
You must be joking ©®, right?

When the grid collapses it would be sudden, as in poof! and the electricity is gone.

All it needs is for a few generators to trip (amongst others) which would lead to a domino effect - tripping other generators or putting them out of sequence or blowing transformers, etc, etc.

It might take weeks (months even) to get everything up and running properly again, all depending on the damage sustained (and what caused the first domino to fall)
