Total Grid collaps

Beg to differ.
Really?

If dedicated enough, for the first few hours/days perhaps. It's thereafter that is the concern, once reality hits

Just think about it for a second:
No electricity at home;
No water to wash/shower/bath/wash dishes/cook;
Sewerage systems blocked;
No public transport;
No fuel to get to work - and, even if you do manage to get there, what are you going to do once the backup power runs out?
No cash to buy anything as the ATMs aren't working;
No food/medicine as stores cannot be replenished as the supply chain has ground to a halt;
Gangs roaming the neighborhood, looking for places to plunder;
No law and order as the police would not be able to cope (ref July 2021, KZN)
Etc, etc

I'm busy reading this:

I think it would be comparable to what would happen here if it were to ever get to that point.

They only use about 6GW and have 1 hydro power station powering 80% of the country . Our case would be 10 times harder imho.

Time line expectation for the grid collapse?

Let me throw the bones fast fast.
Yeah, there will be fokkal warning. Just like when you have a fault, one second it’s working, then the lights flicker and then they go off.

How much power would we need to Jumpstart ours, Eskom had to send 347MW to Botswana, and who is going to give us?

I don't know as far as i have it the problem is having load come up as production comes up

Kinda hard to do with one major source

ie all or nothing ,unless you have a big battery to absorb and then the switch over is balancing the load coming on and push to battery

All these battery backup systems would actually help in a grid restart scenario imo

ie you don't have to worry if you are gonna have wnough load to absorb the unit you just bring online

If the transformers will be fine after getting that cold and moisture ingress is another thing

Yea living next to the coast is gonna e hectic in a total grid failure
