I’m looking for a touch screen phone that also has a keyboard. I’ve had Nokia phones for as long as I can remember and was thinking of getting the N97, but was wondering if anyone had recommendations for other makes/models?

I was in the same boat - but then I tried a N97 and really didn't like it. In the end I went for the HTC Touch Pro 2 - give it a try. The keyboard is far better (includes a dedicated for for numbers) and the tactile feedback on the keys felt just right.

I think waiting abit for the n900 will really be worth it if you a nokia fan , i think you might even be able to get it now

N900 is a really nice phone and I'm a proud Touch Pro2 owner as well.

But if you're not after a hardware keyboard, there are plenty of touch only handsets available. It all depends on what you're looking to get out of your phone.
Perhaps that would give us an indication as to which direction to point you in...

IMO touch typing is not ideal. I suppose it doesn't apply to everyone, but for me not having a tactile response was very frustrating.
I really loved my old P3400 but I just couldn't handle the lack of a keyboard. But if you don't type much I suppose it's not a big deal.

If you are going to go for a touch only, I'd highly recommend the Swype keyboard. http://www.swypeinc.com/
There used to be a free download available available... Maybe I'm just blind but I can't seem to find it anymore. I do have a copy of the cab for WVGA for WM. If anyone wants a copy, you can PM me. It was a free download directly from the Swype website so I'm sure it's not a problem

I've got the N95 at the moment and really need a new phone. I’m a Nokia fan and would like to stick with them, but really can’t find a phone I like at the moment. I know for a fact that I don’t want a touch screen only phone. I guess the idea of a touch screen was more of a nice to have.
I use the camera on my current phone to photograph whiteboards after meeting etc so having a decent camera is helpful and I also use the GPS now and again. Wifi is also a nice to have.

Dude, Why do you need a hard keyboard?

Another question, how long do you plan to keep your phone before getting a new one? My phones generally do not last longer than 6 months. Do you plan to sell your phone when you upgrade?

I ask these questions, because frankly, there is no better phone than an iPhone on the market, Yes, HTC & Nokia make nice phones as well, but how long will they forget about it? If you plan to sell your phone after a year, nothing retains value like iPhone. The iPhone is not over-hyped, its actually a great phone, many phones were projected to be iPhone killers i.e. Nokia 5800, N97 etc. They all come to pass.

You can go to Vodaworld & play with different makes of phone to the feel of how you will like it, just like a test drive :D
