If you know someone who lives in America, go to www.whowhere.com or http://undercoverdetective.com and put in their Surname, First Name, whatever... for about $20 you can find out where they live, where their previous residence was as well as any criminal records, civil suits or other details you could think of.
I was surprised when I found out more about a friend than she wanted me to know lol. It's scary, but the reality is that Americans have SO much information available about themselves on the internet that it's no surprise that identity theft is so easy there.
Needless to say, it makes a person think twice about telling someone their name online lol...
I've found out the truth about people I used to talk to online, for free, back in 2000 already. I got a lot more than I bargained for, let me tell you that much.
And I agree, the yanks have far too much information that is easy to get hold of about a given person, online. Even car accidents are recorded...
On the flipside it will make a yank think twice about lying to you online
