I have finally put a list together so you can see what you are trying to connect to and where it is and maybe make some sense why you cannot connect to some towers even though you may be fairly close by.
In each case (where known) is:

I thought u were on holiday Pro?

Anyhow nice work...me is going tower hunting this weekend [:D]

OK. I've added all the info to the distance calculator. The order of the towers are:
Jhb
Pta
Dbn
Next to go (indicated by N)
In progress towers (indicated by I in the tower number)

Give me some time and I'll add an interface that will email you when a tower in you radius gets added or changes status.

Sorting is done. I'm not going to add the email facility, because I can think of a clever way to avoid people from adding towers incorrectly.

It's easy enough for people to bookmark the link and check it daily or weekly.

I've made in progress and next up towers yellow instead of green.

Hello Nic,

Just a thought. Since we can determine relative direction based on the lat/long and we know what nodes we have on towers .... it should be relatively simple to determine if a tower REALLY covers you...

As an example:

My co-ords are: 27.93289428 26.08650575. This indicates I may be covered by 82 and 12 (in reality Sentech's just screwed me out of signal [:(]). But since 82 only has 120/240 nodes it should not cover me.

Will post formulas/calcs as soon as I find them

I just added the feature, eventhou I didn't see the post. Note that antenna coverage is not really a boolean on/off because those panels overlap a bit.

Maybe I should cancel my MyWireless connection and instead use my telepathic connection to regard.

I went to check the calculator out and I see I am not in range of any towers...went back to the zone locator and I see I have NO coverage according to it. So since Feb, it's gone from partial, to good, to none.

"and if you can read this, you are hallucinating, 'cos i got no connection"

Nice work Nic.

Sadly however I think this is just about the end of my MyADSL posting as Sentech has decided to screw my out of signal.

I truly wish all that have coverage the best of luck - hope sentech lets you keep your signal...

JHBGirl - welcome to the club of ex-connecteds ;-)

r are you within 6km ? Because then you may be able to get a big dish and pick up some over lap signal.

I was thinking that if one looks around one should be able to pick up an unused C-band dish for scrap. 30 dB or more [:D]

Sorry Jhbgirl, I did my best but I knew from the start it was too good to last [|)]

I've had a few mails saying the co-ords for Durbanville are incorrect.
They are correct as I have them anyway.

The Bedfordview tower co-ordinates are wrong. It should be somewhere around 28.133 E - 26.174 S (note - this is not accurate as I don't know the exact position of the tower), not 27.0756 E - 26.1031 S, which puts it in the North West province!
