:confused:Our complex is having a fence erected and I have noted that the fence is earthed at regular intervals along it's length.
The earth wire runs down the outside of the boundary walls. Is this an acceptable practice?

Yes there's no actual current running through it, it provides a short for the live wire to touch if it's broken or pressed down to set off the alarm.

"Regular intervals" is actually good practice, most fence installers half arse the earthing.

Not a problem, but the earth pens are nice long copper things, wonder how soon they will grow feet? Could then lower the effectiveness of fence a bit

As far as I know they are length of re-bar with a lug welded on and then galvanised. My concern is that they can easily be tampered with and disable the fence. Am I being overly concerned and should we get the contractor to reroute to the inside of the walls?
