Hi Guys, Any of you driven the toyota auris x ?? how do you think it compares to the polo 1.4 comfortline?

Wll that is not entirely true....

The polo 1.4 will work out to R182000 with a 5 year service plan

The Auris x 1.3 is R182000 with 5year service plan and 5year warantee

Polo 1.4 = 63Kw
Auris X 1.3 = 74 Kw

Do you see my point ???

Haven't looked at those but what I do know is that at R230k for the Auris SportX (97 kW), at ~R300k you can get a Focus ST (160 kW), at R265k you can get an Alfa MiTo at 125 kW and at R260k you can get a Clio RS at 148 kW.

I can't answer your question either - but I can tell when asking between the RunX RSI and a new equivilant a few years, no one said go for the RSI. They all recommended Polos or Fords.

I went for the RSI in the end - and loved it. Had 3.5 years with no issues.

I got the same thing as you're getting about it being over priced at R200k and under performing. Yet it came with everything (leather seats, gearknob and steering ; 6x CD changer, climate control, multi function steering wheel, central locking etc) - including 5 year service plan - and ran next to a Fiesta ST and Clio Sport of the time, both considered 'hot'. Up at reef, the only Polo running away from me was a GTI ... so not quite sure where all the guys get their facts ;)

The RunX RSi was never overpriced. Considering that it competes in the same segment as the Golf, it was priced quite well.

Although I have to say that it's rather embarrassing that a 141kW RSi ran with a 112kW Fiesta, and was beaten by a 110kW Polo :D

That's the only truth - power was over rated. However - when you ignore the power rating and think of it as a 1.8 RunX ... Performance wasn't half bad at all.

And the Polo would run away at reef (ie when I'm at). Coastal the RSI took every Polo ;)

Hell, in the CAR magazine shoot out it was quicker than the Golf 4 132kw ;)

I still come out in a rash when I think that the RunX was built here and shipped to Australia and cost 50% in Oz of the retail price here.

overpriced, underpowered

Overpriced yes definately, underpowered probably for price range but it does pretty well for a 1.3.

Lol notice the VW fans ignoring this post.

Hyundai I20 :)

1.6 @ R160 000 - 91Kw

Good choice, even better would be the KIA Cerato @ R185k. So much car for you money. If you want a hatch wait for the hatch version.

But if its between the those two cars I would go for the Auris even though I am far from an Auris fan.

When still with VW we had an Auris over from Toyota next door for a day. Can't remember the model, but it really just didn't impress me in any category. I vividly remember the shoddy exposed welds on the window frames, and the yucky plastics on the dash.

Meh. I just won't ever drive a Toyota, unless it's an old-school Landcruiser bakkie.

I lol'd - hard

It is difficult to compare as the polo is a 'super' mini and the auris is a compact car. Both are dreary but I would choose the auris (and look at hyundais).

The word Super and Polo 1.4 shouldn't be used in the same sentence. Unless you plan to say it is super slow, that would be ok.

That's an insane amount of money considering you can get a Lancer 2.0 GLS (on special) for R200K and the Kia Cerato 2.0 SX for about R210K both which have a power output of 114kW and nearly 200Nm of torque and will run circles around the Polo 1.4 and Auris X 1.3

I have to agree with Paul S and others. Rather consider the Hyundai i20 1.6, Kia Cerato 2.0 or Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0. Much better cars in my opinion and you get a lot more value for your money.
