I have to agree with Paul S and others. Rather consider the Hyundai i20 1.6, Kia Cerato 2.0 or Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0. Much better cars in my opinion and you get a lot more value for your money.

They may well be, however, it is interesting to see the way that the Koreans "wear' and what they look like when they are traded in after 5 years. With very few exceptions, VW and Toyota still look good inside with 150k on the clock...the Koreans tend to come in as battered heaps, with badly worn carpets and upholstery and plastic bits that look 15 years older than the car.

It will be interesting to see how the new wave of Koreans wear actually, as their quality is vastly improved over older Korean models. Small wear and tear issues may be a problem, but with the 150000km warranty on the Hyundai and Kia... mechanically they should be no problem

I don't have a problem with the mechanicals, but these guys are where Opel was with the Monzas of the mid 80's...engine's fine and interior's fine for the first 10k then it all falls apart.

Not so sure about this.

I had the pleasure of hiring a Cerato with 20k on the clock and it was flawless, not a single rattle and it felt like I was sitting in a car in a completely differant leage to the shopping trolleys (Polo etc). There are a couple of long term reviews to of the Cerato and I haven't read anything about interiors falling about. True the "New" KIA's are only around two years old and still need to stand the test of time but that is why they are so competively priced. If you look at how the company has grown, the lead designer who was poached from your beloved VW things really can't go too bad.

You mean like the C20XE (2L 16v) engines from the 80s still running around now and killing VW TDIs? Or did you just mean the interior falls apart? Because plenty of those engines still around today without overhaul.
