Toyota bakkie Engine warning light.

Am driving a TOYOTA HILUX 2008 D4D ,everything was fine with it,friday while i was driving around 120 km/h,i overtook a car then suddenly my engine warning light came On,i stopped after and few minutes when i start the car and started driving, when i press the accelarater it felt like i wasnt pressing and the car didnt have any power,then after a while the light goes off and then everything gets well,but after few minutes of driving it comes on again and the accelarator and power problem pesist.anyone who could know what the problem might be kindly assist.

Take it to the dealer and ask them to check it out

Priceless advice :rolleyes: I assume the OP asked for advice here because of the age of his bakkie, no longer being under motorplan, and trying to avoid going to the Toyota stealerships.

Three of my friends had this issue, caused by a dirty diesel filter. This is apparently a problem with the Toyota D4D engines in SA.
 
thanks Slootvreter you obvisiouly got my problem.plus the thing is everything is fine when car is idling ,the sound is normal,i think the diesel filter might be the case ,meaning when the car is speeding there is a break of diesel.

I might be wrong, and possible are, but this is what a few of my friends experienced. One had two inline diesel filters installed.

My Bakkie's Air intake regulator plug came off once and it also did this funny things to the engine. Also engine light came on. Plugged it in again and all was perfect.

Just check that. Might just be a faulty wire or the airflow meter is packing up.

Whats wrong with taking it in to a workshop were they charge R550 for a diagnostic test instead of just guessing.

I get your point, but a blocked fuel filter is not the only thing that would cause a car to go into limp mode.

No problem at all.

But with most, you get better advice if you post more technical info. CEL diagnosis is usually more accurate with a CEL code. Else it is just a guessing game.

Unfortunately it is an intermittent fault. Luckily it can be replicated.

Don't wait too long to sort it out. Fuel starvation is an issue and can be a safety issue.


Obviously from your description it cannot be a boost pipe that has come off.. As the pipe will not magically re attach itself.

There is just sooo many things that might cause the light to come on and the bakkie to go into limp mode.
Quickest is to take it to a workshop so they can read the fault codes. From there it will make it easier to pinpoint the problem area.

Jesus /facepalm. Of course it's not, I'm just relaying what more than one friend of mine experienced with theirs :rolleyes: I didn't say that is it, and only it, that is wrong.
 
Same thing happened to me with my (old) petrol Hilux. Engine light on, and "safe mode" caused power to drop. It turns out a knock sensor had failed. No damage done, just a sensor replacement.
