Check out the 350z reviews back in 2003/2004/2005. It won many car of the year type awards etc.
True, that was a great car, but it's launch price was around 400K and that was back in 2004. If anything it makes the 86 even more amazing in terms of value for money

THis is how people should express their views nice.
370z now is 550k. The only true toyota 86 competitor is the genesis coup 2.0T R-spec and its not available in the country. If it was the 86 and BRZ would have some serious problems

Mmmmm, i've been watching that Genesis! Also a very interesting car!
Between the BRZ and the 86 i'd probably take the BRZ personally, but hell... Either would make me a very happy human being

Same here. I like the concept of the FT-86 but feel that it needs a turbo charger at reef altitudes.
The Hyundai Genesis Coupe would do well in SA if they brought out a right-hand drive model.
Genesis Coupe with the 2.0T (204 kW and 372Nm@2000 RPM) engine: Power to mass ratio of 126kW per tonne (including 80kg driver and 30kg of fuel).
FT-86 at 5500 ft : 94kW / tonne (including 80kg driver and 30kg of fuel).
The 3.8L V6 is a little monster.
Then there is the price tag. The base models cost the same.
The Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T starts at US$24,250
The Toyota FT-86 starts at US$24,200

Ah fazda... Do you ever have anything bad to say about the cars you sell? It's a shame really you clearly have a wide knowledge on cars but when it comes to toyburu the salesman comes out
On the contrary I am HIGHLY critical of many of the cars that I sell.
When you see what I say about the 86 or a Subaru, I am talking from the heart, as I really DO like the cars, and their positives far outweigh their negatives.
NO car is perfect - some are just more perfect than others, and exactly what makes up that perfection will vary from person to person.
In my case, if it has the heart and driving enjoyment of a Subaru, I am prepared to overlook interior design, it's simply not important to me in the bigger scheme of things.
If you want to see me criticise a Toyota, then start a thread on an Etios or Innova, and you will change your tune!

Oh dear....
Let's just get this on the record, so that you can refer to it and refresh your memory every now and then....
As a car that is capable of being driven around town and then off to the beach or on a 4x4 route, there is very little that can come close to it.
The Korean and other Japanese pretenders cannot come close to it, and it is doubtful whether their designers ever even thought that they were in the same market.
Is it more able than a KIA or a Hyundai, or a CRV or a RAV4? YES - better ground clearance than all of them, and a 4x4 system that actually works.
Does it match them for bling? Absolutely not.
Is it better than a Landy, or a Land Cruiser or a Prado? No...but it is nicer to drive (in my opinion) than any of them, and I've driven them all.
Does it have any of the fancy off road stuff of those cars? Definitely not.
Can it stay with those cars on every thing except a rock jumping course? Yes it can.
You see, all cars offer a compromise at some point or other, and yes, it must be wonderful to head off into the bush in your R 800 000 Landy, just knowing that if any of that incredible electronic wizardry will get you through any given situation, provided it doesn't break. Ask a couple of RR owners who have had to have their million rand babies flat bedded back to SA from Botswana after the hydraulic suspension has packed up, and they might just see the merit of driving something less complicated. Speak to the same guys who have seen Foresters drive past them on the beaches and in the deserts, and most of them will admit to being slightly uneasy about a car that costs a quarter of what they have spent, show them the way.
I'm not saying that they are the best, or anywhere near perfect - they are just bloody good with respect to what they CAN and will do if you chuck really rough conditions at them.
As you know, I don't sell them any more, so there's no need fore me to push them in any way - I should actually be telling all of you to buy Fortuners and RAV 4's shouldn't I? Difference is, is that I've lived the Subaru experience which many of you haven't and I know quality when I see it.
Hopefully my little story is acceptable to you now.

Well lucky the genesis isnt here i guess otherwise i'd be tearing my hair out chosing between the two lol, but I would probably settle for the 3.8l genesis but that a completely different spec vehicle.
And no i dont agree with him because he shares my views I was agreeing in the manner of which his post was structured nothing more.

....both of them....what most of you don't know is that I used to teach advanced high speed driver training for Porsche, so whatever the outcome, I'm happy...Now....because I was one of the guys who helped Noah to build the Ark, will somebody, slightly younger please tell me if there is any trick to watching You Tube, without waiting 7 hours 15 minutes to watch an 11 minute tape...
