Toyota is testing a new communication system for cars

Toyota officials said the smart-car technology it is developing will be tested on some Japanese roads starting in 2014. Similar tests are planned for the U.S., although details were not decided. Such technology is expected to be effective because half of car accidents happen at intersections, according to Toyota.

I have not been to Japan but I expect Japanese drivers to be courtious and well behaved semi-robotic drivers who would never even think of jumping an intersection in the red.

I agree with Tns except that SA taxi drivers should be exported en masse to the Toyota testing facility in Japan.

That is the idea, the Japanese are far too well behaved and conformant, any system they produce needs to be subjected to real world testing.
