Tracking ISP FTTH orders with Telkom

In how big an area?

They lit up 150 homes, in only phases 1 and 2 of blairgowrie, in 2 weeks, excluding saturdays and sundays, so you do the math. So that is about 15 homes a day, or 7 installers in Blairgowrie essentially.

Any luck Fintan?

I just wish I knew what the Telkom status's were. I can see my order sitting as 'Executing', no idea what comes after that !!

Still no luck, will follow up with WebAfrica again today.

So that is one suburb in one city?

Yes, that is one suburb (truth be told, the entire Blair is not yet trech, so guess you can say that is in a small part of Blairgowrie), but they are in more suburbs than just Blairgowrie.

I am not blasting Telkom, just trying to compare install practices. To see how do the two compare. What is the different approaches.

So I called WebAfrica again after waiting since the 12/01/2015 and this time the feedback is anywhere from 3-6 weeks is expected, but they have some customers waiting for 2.5 months. Also there is no way to follow up and there is no way to escalate.

I requested the Telkom reference number again but Telkom doesn't appear to be able to track it on the website or through the call centre.

Hi Fintan,

Just got off the phone with ISPAfrica (They called me). Telkom have confirmed they are scheduled to install on Saturday 13th Feb. So just over 1 week since the application was lodged with ISPAfrica.

Let's hope Telkom hold up their end of this deal !!

Hi Chris

Thanks for your response, I'm probably going to do the same

Hi Chris

So I bit the bullet and ordered with ISPAfrika and received my Telkom order number within an hour. Now that you have a installation date, have you had an status updates on the Telkom order tracker (mine currently in "executing" status)?

Fibre line installed. Took all of 90 mins to do.

Shame that ISPAfrica dont appear to be working today to commission the service :(

Looks like Monday will be the day. Still a lot better than 3 weeks of no action from WebAfrica.

WebAfrica 3 + weeks with NO action or feedback.

ISPAfrica 8 days and the line is installed!!

I didn't need ISPAfrika to activate my line. It worked from the moment it was hooked up. My correspondence with them afterwards was just to get the debit order set up and to receive the settings for the 10GB account.

Hmm ok.

Did you need to enter PPPOA details in the router?

I have a Alcaltel PON connected to a wireless router.

I have no username / password details from ISPAfrika as yet?

I was told we needed to email the 'circuit' number to ISPAfrica once Telkom provided it. Then ISPAfrica would enable me?

Any assistance would be great if I can get up and running before monday.

The circuit number is a load of rubbish. They don't need it.

I use an Afrihost data account on my line, so those were the details I entered into the router. Worked immediately - first speed test was 97Mbps.

The ISPAfrika data account is a backup account for me. Haven't used it yet.

If the optical light on the ONT is green then you're good to go.

Cool. Just finished entering details for Afrihost into the Router.

Optical light on the ONT is green. LAN cable from ONT LAN1 port to LAN1 port on Huawei HG532F wireless router. No need for ONT and Wireless Router to be on the same subnet?

Should be good to go?

The ethernet cable should go from lan1 on the ONT to the WAN port on the router.

But yeah, it's dead simple. No special configuration required.

Ping 4ms
Down 19.07Mbps
Up 4.86Mbps

On a 20Mbps line with ISPAfrica.

Nice.

Upload speed doesn't increase much when you go to 100Mbps:

I was hoping I'd get the 25Mbps upload I've seen others get on the earlier Telkom FTTH days. My connection is actually around 97Mbps down and 11Mbps up, when testing from a device directly connected to the main fibre router.

You should consider adding your location to your MyBB profile so people automatically know where you're testing/having issues from.
