Trade In how does it work.

I'm against this but hey don't want to look like a jealous friend. I said she must also consider Renault Clio, Mazda 2/3 etc if she really need another new car.

What jealous about wanting a friend not to make a mistake?

Personally I would keep the Figo and rather save.

She won't get finance on half a million on a 10k salary

LOL I never read that...now I’m wondering why we are even having his conversation since it’s impossible anyway.

I thought the statement was that the repayment would be 10k.

And it would be utterly retarded to buy a new car when you have one already and only earn 10k.

She is 27 years she has no responsibility she stay at home, with working parents VW Beetle is her dream. I think what trigged this thing now, the boyfriend's car is stolen so he will be getting a new car. I think that is why she feel she also need a new car.

So she is a spoilt brat!
Thought you were her boyfriend...why do you care if her parents can support her.

Btw...It seems that English is not your first language??

You are being incredibly rude for no reason, what's the matter?

50% residual peeps driving bmws beg to differ

Yes, one of the reasons why more than half the population are blacklisted, then given amnesty, databases purged, then blacklisted again, then given amnesty again and so goes on. People don't seem to learn, and removing the consequences of poor choices make matters worse.

The only time that a lease with residual (or "balloon payment") makes sense is when inflation is consistently high (over the coming 3 to 6 years). By high inflation I mean in excess of 12%, which, due to our Reserve Bank, has not been the case since 1990 ( https://tradingeconomics.com/south-africa/inflation-cpi ).
Or you can just be a leech and keep receiving amnesty.

If this is how she feels (thinks), let her buy the beetle. Tell her it will be a good investment. Better even if on the BFs name. Then at least you don't have to look like the jealous friend anymore.

Don't know why many didn't pick up on this , but hey post counts ...

Let her get the car which she cannot afford to pay for for the next 5-7 years. It will teach her a good lesson. Forget about saving money, moving out, retirement, food etc. When the beetle is paid off she will finally realize what she did.

And then you tell her all about the Joneses. One must not be jealous remember ;)

I don't think you should get involved, just now her boyfriend will end at your door. Just let her go and apply for finance. She won't get it because the banks won't approve it.

The was nothing about buying brand new in the OP, the half a million idea was introduced by someone on the assumption that this is supposed to be a new car, so the friend might still be able to qualify for finance with a massive balloon since she could not even be able to purchase a Figo without one.

Bottom line, bad idea.

So what you saying is, OP is a douche bag ...

"I told her maybe she should think twice about getting a new car"

So no, not an assumption.

No way she will get out of the Figo deal with a balloon after only 2.5 years anyway.
