Traffic: Avoid N1 North in Midrand - 3 June 2011

If you heading to Pretoria, avoid the N1 North in Midrand. Apparently there is a accident after Samrand and the highway was closed for a while. Still backed up pass New Road.

Take R55 or otherwise to get onto N14 if you can.

Will update when it goes back to normal.

UPDATE:
N1 North still slow in Midrand (like 10-20km/h stuff). Still backed up to New Road (which is as far as I can see, so it might be further) from Samrand. Other roads going North like R55 and Lever road also very congested.

I went through earlier, probably just as it happened as the queue was still getting to Olifantsfontein offramp. Looked like a truck overturned so pretty serious.
Friday and having the N1 closed = HELL!! Good luck to those having to travel to Pretoria later.

If possible use the R511 (diepsloot) or R512 onto n14 or R21. Depending on where you're leaving from. http://www.ewn.co.za/traffic.asp is reporting another accident at Botha Avenue on N1 North

Better but about 15km further south, seems packed, I don't know if that shows the normal level of traffic for this time since the highway was upgraded, I havent been on that road since.

Here till 18:00, highway still very slow even comparted to the normal rush hour.

Nope, it's in Pta. Midrand is about 20 or so kms away.
