You know what makes it so nice...its because its illegal........early in the morning. Dark...engine starting to scream........and as you slam it down, you see this ******* with a flashlight in the road [nearly ran him over, stupid freak] and you back of.....hell its like missing the ‘fyndraai’ 15grand that’s nothing....if you want to feel the rush...you got to pay.

Next time drive down the road check for traps then double back and do your run

Speeding bikes never have plates on and theres no way in hell they gonna catch you if you doing 250+ unless a cop is waiting up ahead and it normally takes more than 20 min to get a helicopter in the air enough time to hide your bike they have an unfair advantage over us speeding 4 wheeled ous

And police don't even bother to chase.Most impressive trap I've set off had to be a temporary trap set up on the Olifantsfontein bridge, just above the dip in the N1. Lit up the whole dip, I thought it was Christmas for a second...
Average day going home I'll hit 200-220 just for the fun... taken it up to 282 indicated, 2000 revs still to redline.
Never had an accident at high speed. They can stuff their 'speed kills' propaganda.

Isn't it ironic how hypocritical people are? The thread that I read just before this one was about how crime is rampant in SA and how incapable the police is in dealing with it. Yet opening this thread reveals the escapades of lunatics travelling at obscene velocities on public roads and then exchanging tips on how to avoid getting caught. Do such people not realise that they are no better than the common criminals they so love to hate?
At least it was insightful to learn how the (small) brains of the Kamikaze pilots that I see on the road every day function, though.

i've had an accident at high speed and i am alive - my old car is not
but yeah speeding is fun when done responsibly. luckily no one was injured in my accident except me with a boken collar bone.

Grow a pair. I'm not endangering anyone by heading down a clear, well-lit highway at midnight, except myself. And that's only if I do something very very stupid.
Speed limits fail to take account of the capabilities of modern vehicles. I can stop from 160 inside 15 meters. I can swing around a car before I've even consciously registered that it had moved in my way. My turning ability becomes *better* at high speed. And your car, if manufactured in the last 10 years, has advanced to a similar degree.
I take responsibility for anything that occurs as a result of my actions, so I ensure that my actions don't endanger others. This means that if I'm going to pull out my top-end, it won't be anywhere near you and your family. It won't be in an area with blind rises and sudden corners. Now speak to the idiot testosterone-fuelled, SpeednSound-addicted box pilots who don't seem to see the sense of this.
Don't assume that going fast means I want to risk other people's lives and property, you sanctimonious prick.

You can stop from 160 in 15 meters? I'll assume that's a typo because if it isn't then you are even more of a danger to other people than I thought.

There's simply no way. The quickest stoppers are generally sportbikes and small sports cars, e.g. a Porsche. These can generally get from 160kph to zero in about 4.5s - 200m if my calculations are correct. Bigger sports cars and standard cars take longer.
Attend superbike school. At the end of the course they require that you be able to make 5 emergency stops from 160 within 20 meters. Cars take much longer.

Only if the speed is excessive. This has nothing to do with the speed limit which is fundamentally arbitrary. Different vehicles, drivers and road conditions should all be factors. Another thing that is never taken into account is speed-related attentiveness. A speed of 40kph might incur a lack of attentiveness such that a pedestrian will get hit at that speed, where if the driver had been doing perhaps 80kph they would have been paying more attention and actually come to a stop or near stop before impact.
As for the open roads like those out in the Karoo, there should be no speed limit. All the accidents on the black spots on the N1 occur because the road is monotonous and people are not travelling fast enough to maintain attention. They either need to drop the limit or rebuild the road with curves in it to keep drivers alert.
Motorcyclists should definitely be subject to different speed limits. No-one pays attention to the road and other vehicles like a rider, especially if they're travelling 200kph or more. In accident motorcycles on a motorway a motorcyclist is likely to kill or injure only themselves, they have greater manoeuvrability and they can bring their vehicle to halt far quicker than any normal car.
It has been well-established by research overseas that the majority of people gravitate to a speed that feels right and comfortable for them, their vehicle and the road, regardless of what the signs might tell them is the 'right' speed. If we insist on ignoring this basic fact we can only expect that people will ignore the speed limits.
