Hi

Please may someone provide me with some much needed advice. I recently received a fine for forgetting to renew my Vehicle licence disk. It was 22 days after the date. So i got a infringement notice. It has been 2 weeks, and I have been to the post office, payfine and absa, they all cant find the infringement number on their "system".

I phoned aarto and they said it takes 15 days, so i should wait a bit longer. So i will try this weekend. But seriously, if i wait any longer i may lose out on the 'discount' period and then have to pay the full amount.

Is this type of situation normal? Any advice or suggestions. Have they forgotten to capture the fine?:D

Thanks

you have 30 days after expiry of the licence to renew it

were you issued the fine by a [-]pig[/-] police officer?

Correct me if im wrong but isnt it 21 days, from what i have found out.....

Yip caught by the cops, there was a whole group of them, in fourways....lots of people being pulled over.....

Start a fire with the fine. I got fined R3500 for running a red light whilst on my cellphone. It's been 3 months, nothing on the system. In the poor AARTO data-capturer's defence, I have a hard time making out the cop's handwriting on the original, let alone what (s)he has to deal with on the copy...

lol nice! But im just concerned that if i leave it and in a few months time they come knocking asking me to pay the full amount (losing out on discount) then how do i prove that their systems were not working.

When i explained this to aarto, they said that i should write down the date and time of the call and the call centre agents name....though im not sure if that will help!!

if you were issued with a legal summons (which is what the cop gave you), just go and pay it wherever it says you should and they should give you the discount

I have no problem paying for breaking the law. What I do have a problem with is throwing money into a black hole, probably into the pocket of the person processing your payment since there is no record of it in the AARTO system. That's what's good about payment systems offered by FNB, PnP, Checkers, etc. You cannot pay a fine if they cannot find it on the system, precisely to prevent money disappearing.

You are however welcome to do an EFT into Metro's account via the banking details provided on the back, where they will gladly accept it for nothing.

On the back of the infringement notice, you can pay at a absa, the post office etc, i have been to these places and they cannot fine the notice numbers on their systems. If you have any queries, you can fone AARTO, and when i did she says it takes 15 days. But she also checked on her system and it is not there.

So i guess i will wait and i have screenshots of the date/time and it not being found on paycity/aarto and have the ladies name at aarto. so hopefully it is sufficient.

Thanks for your help...

I wonder if this has happened to anyone else?

If I am not mistaken, you have a 30 day grace period after the expiration date of your license. I think the fine was thrown out as you were within the 30 day period. Get written / signed / stamped / dated proof that the fine is not on the system and if the fine ever appears you have something to back you up.

its 30 days from when the fine it put on their system.

Most likely its been forgotten about.

SO i found out that it is common practice for them to capture the fine on their system a few days before the 32 days are up so that you have to pay the full amount! Sad times that this is what the country has come to!

Will have to keep an eye on the AARTO website, 1 more week before the discount period is up.

As per Aarto the 32 days only start when you receive the notice by register post. So Johannesburg Traffic department is not playing by the rules by sending it through normal post..

An update on this issue:

I waited for the 32 days but as of yet there is no record of it on any system. AARTO got back to me that if there if it still does not appear i should lodge an AARTO 08 Representation Form to have it dismissed. I have done that and now await their reply.

Hoping for a good outcome

Off-Topic.

I got a speeding fine by post, but oddly on this 'fine' there is no image of my car and they have not specified the exact speed I was driving at. It say 'contravened ...law driving on a 60km/h zone at speed between 76-80km/h'. The fine was R500.00 discounted to R250.00.
Can I query this or am I just wasting my time?
