What are they smoking over there at Sentech ?

Scenario :-

I'm downloading Knoppix from Internet Solutions, coming down at a decent 12k per second (I'm on a 128k line), via FTP

No problem, this morning I decide I want to get a file via bittorrent and leave that and my FTP going while I'm at work.

So, I get back now and find my bittorrent is sitting on 1k up/down and my FTP is crawling along at 1k per second.

So, as an experiment, I stop the bittorrent download and wham - I'm getting 12k per second FTP again.

This also happens when browsing.
If your on a 128k connection - give it a try and see if it's just me experiencing this.

I'm not a networking guru, but I have read the CUG post (for what it's worth) about the poor bandwidth sharing policy.

This is quite simply INSANE - Sentech are pissing thier bandwidth away and pissing thier clients off !

God knows, they could hire me, a Networking Neophyte and give me 2 weeks and a whole bunch of HOWTO's and I'd sort their damn system out !

Buch of damn idiots.

that is how most of us got going there are problems and the BW management seems to be hiding the cause more than solving the real issues there are things they can do cheaply to solve it hopefully they start doing this before 1/2 there customer base cancel

Yeah, this has really gotta be sorted, it's driving me insane.

Running FTP and Bittorrent at the same time - note the value in brackets in the FTP dialogue box window

Cancelled the Bittorrent download, and now look at the speed.

Don't get excited - it's Internet Solution I'm d/l'ing from - if it was an international server and I was getting that speed on my 128k line, I'd be jumping for joy.

alas, it is not.
I'm stuck in the happy-happy land of 56k modem emulation ! [;)]

You know, I really really like consistency.

If I go to the same place for breakfast every saturday, I expect the breakfast to be the same each week, which is why I would choose to go back there. Should they change the breakfast and it's not to my liking, I'll go elsewhere.

Sentech keeps on messing up my breakfast.

After posting this original rant, some days later, I get a perfect connection - I've got a bittorrent d/l going, I'm FTP'ing at a reasonable rate from a local site and can still surf international.

IOW, what I'm paying for.

That lasted about 2 days and now we're back to square one again.

I had a bittorrent going at a measly 2k down, 1k up and couldn't actually do anything else. I cancelled the torrent and still couldn't do anything else.

Disconnect / Reconnect - ah - ok - I can surf again, at modem speed internationally.

Oh well, only another month to go of this SH IT.
